A 19th century 1828 pattern, Highland officers sword by Wilkinson. Of standard form, with a steel basket hilt guard, with heart shaped piercings, and a red felt and leather inner. Fish skin grip with wire binding, and a domed and knopped pommel. Double edged blade, with twin fullers. Henry Wilkinson of Pall Mall London etched to the ricasso, plus usual proof mark. The blade has also been etched with its former owners initials, and these are believed to read as ‘ANSG’. The spine is stamped with the serial number ‘11980’. Complete with steel scabbard, with 2 suspension rings. The sword does have a period bullion knot attached to the basket, but this is believed to be incorrect for this style of sword. Approximate length in scabbard 100.5cm - blade length 81.8cm. Condition: generally solid and complete, but service and age wear. The guard has darkened with age, and there are breaks in 2 places (see photographs). The lining is mostly complete, but is soiled with age and from service. The blade is bright and clean, with just minor mottling to the metal. The scabbard has darkened with age, and there is a dent to one side around halfway down. Both the guard and scabbard have light areas of old surface rust and contact marks commensurate with age and use.
