Wilkinson Ltd. Sheffield 1902; the vesta 2" (5 cms) long; 1.2 oz weighable silver (5)
1950’s era British Army Scottish officer’s broad sword and scabbard by Wilkinson Sword. Features plated, nickel-pierced basket hilt, with minor plating loss, full leather inner guard, with red felt to upper portion, retaining red cotton plume to pommel. Fish skin & full wire wrap. 83 cm long straight double-edged blade, maker-marked with Wilkinson cypher and ‘BY APPOINTMENT TO HER MAGESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II SWORD CUTLERS WILKINSON SWORD LTD MADE IN ENGLAND’, with manufacture number 19096 to spine. Unsharpened blade is the single fullered type and has age darkening to surface, good condition, retaining good etchings to both sides of blade, showing flora & thistles. The brown field scabbard shows only light wear. Generally, a good example. Overall measures 106 cm.
WWI era 1908 Pattern British Army trooper’s cavalry sword and scabbard attributed to the Royal Military College of Canada. Full bowl guard and heavy ball pommel, thatched brown composite grip with thumb recess, guard stamped R.M.C 9 and broad arrow C, Canadian issue stamp. 94cm long single edged blade with ricasso maker stamped SB&N, with February 1918 dating and broad arrow acceptance marking. Blade is solid, but metal shows pitting to length, being most prevalent in the 3/4 before point. The Wilkinson WSC FGH stamped 1916 dated scabbard has no dents, but has surface wear, with throat screws missing. Overall measures114 cm.
1920’s era British Royal Navy midshipman’s sword/dirk and scabbard by Wilkinson & Gieves of London. Lion head hilt with lose ring knot carrying minor fraying, excellent cream fish skin wire twist grip, acorn tipped cross guard with wreathed fouled anchor crest. The locking pin mechanism opens and locks in well. 45cm blade double maker stamped by Henry Wilkinson London and Gieves Ltd London Portsmouth & Devonport to Ricasso, good engravings to 2/3 of blade length, off floral and geometric pattern with GVR royal crest and naval fouled anchor. Unsharpened blade bright with some age darkening and minor pitting to back edge and towards tip. The scabbard is complete with officers ‘RO’ initials to the top double loose ring mount, leather and stitching excellent with blade fitting well. Overall a good example & measures 61cm.
Wilk (John William Wilkinson 1906-1994), watercolour cartoon depicting Mr John Cowell and Alec Beck outside the Eden Hall Hotel with caption below, gentleman with cigar to worried sportsman "I told you it was today", signed and dated Wilk '76, framed 32 cm x 50 cm. NOTE: John Cowell an avid sportsman and it was thought that he would miss his own daughter's wedding (see cars to right hand side) as he would be out fishing or shooting. The Eden Hall Hotel is near Penrith. ARR
Wilk (John William Wilkinson 1906-1994), watercolour cartoon titled "Now do you believe it's a genuine hunting horn", signed Wilk '76, 36 cm x 54 cm. NOTE: John Cowell (Brassy Johnny) had a market stall and antique shop in Keswick and was always asked by bus loads of American tourists if his hunting horns were real. ARR
