§ Norman Wilkinson, RA (British, 1878-1971) A Fisherman on the River Shiel, Highlands signed lower right "Norman Wilkinson / River Shiel" oil on board 44 x 59cm (17 x 23in) Provenance: The Tryon Gallery, 41-42 Dover Street, London, W1. Some surface dirt but fine. Oil on hardboard. The support and paint layer are in a good condition overall. There is some dirt and fly spots on the frame.

An 1870 first pattern' Lead Cutter No 2' by Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London:, the straight single edge blade with double edge tip signed as per title, over a regulation steel bowl hilt and guard and ribbed handle, together in a gilt brass mounted black leather scabbard, (lacks throat mount) blade length 77cm.*Notes-The lead cutter was a popular sword in the 19th century resembling an over sized Naval cutlass. They were produced in several sizes and weights for strength training and feats of swordsmanship. Wilkinson was the main producer of this style of sword in several sizes, No 1 being the lightest and No 4 the heaviest. They were used predominantly for displays such as dissevering a sheep carcass in half or a balanced lead bar with a single blow.

An officer’s tall blue cloth shako of The Royal Dockyard Battn, black PL peak, gilt lace top band, fine gilt and silver plated HP, fouled anchor within a crowned oak and laurel wreath with title scroll below, velvet backed oak wreath link chinchain and gilt lion’s head bosses, white over red ball tuft in gilt socket, leather and silk lining, trade label of “Wilkinson & Son London”, in its tin case.
