The pair of spaniels - has some areas of foxing - mainly noticeable on the left hand upper corner and some areas of discolouration throughout. Dirt, etc trapped beneath the glass. Mount is wrinkled. Visible image measures approx 27 cm x 36 cm - including frame measures 44 cm x 51.5 cm. Spaniel with duck - visible image measures approx 27 cm x 36 cm - including frame measures approx 44 cm x 51.5 cm. The 83 cm (approx) blade, numbered 58214 indicating 1911, bears battle honours including those of the Boer War. The hilt is of regimental pattern, the open guard incorporates the Order of the Garter Star, shagreen grip with twist wire binding (small section of wire absent). Housed in with polished brown leather scabbard, midsection crudely repaired with Sellotape.

Purchased circa 1985 by an Army officer at a McKee Barracks 'barracks sale'. The Blue Hussars, officially called the Mounted Escort, was a ceremonial unit of the Irish Army established in 1932. It escorted the President of Ireland on state occasions, most famously to and from presidential inaugurations between 1938, when the first president took office, and 1948 when the Escort was disbanded.
