Following his commission into the British Army, Charles Jnr served with the Sussex regiment, before joining the Royal Horse Guards, where he attained the rank of Captain. In 1907 he was awarded the Royal Victorian Order (R.V.O.) by King Edward VII, following a royal visit to the family home of Alton Towers during that year - (Alton Towers is now the location of the popular British theme park of the same name). In December 1914, Viscount Ingestre contracted influenza which caused his death, at his London home, on 8/1/1915 at the age of 32. He was accorded a military funeral, which was attended by many members of the British aristocracy, before being laid to rest at the family church at Ingestre, Staffordshire.
