Plated triple bar hand guard and wire bound fish skin grip, leather bound wooden scabbard. Chamois lined leather carrying bag, this with an applied printed shipping notice, ‘Lieut. R. A. H. Soames RA Shoeburyness Per. H.T. Dorsetshire’. the blade with some severe rust patches, the carrying bag severely distressed £140-£180 --- H.T. Dorsetshire was a Hospital Troopship in the 1920s. South African Cavalry Officer’s Sword 1912 Pattern. A rare example, the straight 89cm blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London (no number), with single fuller and etched both sides with the Imperial Crown, the Arms of South Africa and double legend, ‘South Africa’ ‘Zuid Afrika’, the Proteus plant and panels of scrolling foliage. Massive sheet metal hand guard wrought with floral designs and incorporating buds of the proteus plant, the pommel wrought with laurel sprays. The pistol shaped dermatine grip is covered with a wire bound fishskin. Heavy gauge black leather scabbard with top and bottom brass chapes, the upper with a frog stud, a separate brass ‘diamond’ below the top chape is inscribed ’67’.
