After Norman Wilkinson (British 1878-1971) etching, rivers scene with signature in pencil to margin, within a broad card mount and slender moulded frame, under glass 22.5cm x 19cm & 49.5cm x 42.5cm overall. *Norman Wilkinson CBE RI was a British artist who usually worked in oils, watercolours and drypoint. He was primarily a marine painter, but also an illustrator, poster artist, and wartime camoufleur. Wilkinson was the inventor of dazzle painting to protect merchant shipping during World War I.

The paper has discoloured to a minor degree overall. However, the edges of the sheet, where the mount has been in contact has significant burn marks and discolouration. A replacement of the mount would be highly recommended.

Bergmann 6.12.1881, regulation blade 86.5cms, etched and polished with crowned VR and owner’s crest and initials, patent tang, regulation brass hilt with fixed guard, chequered composition grip, bullion dress knot. Good condition, with a few research notes. Charles Herbert Bergmann b.2.1.1838, ensign 15.7.1878 with the 60th Bengal N.I., 12.9.1878 Col. commanding the Bengal Infantry.

Double Barrel 16 Bore Back Action Percussion Sporting Gun by Wilkinson & Son, rebrowned twist barrels 70cms with platinum safety plugs, signed locks engraved with spaniel and pheasants, engraved iron mounts, trigger guard for a gauntlet hand, figured walnut half stock, chequered grip. Good condition, worn and refinished overall.

Housed in leather and steel mounted scabbard. Standard blade with Wilkinson Pall Mall makers mark, acceptance stamps and date ‘3 18’ (March 1918). Generally good example. 

British 1907 Bayonet by Wilkinson Regimentally Marked to the 2nd Kent Fortress Field Company Royal Engineers (2 KFRE), standard pattern 1907 bayonet with oil hole to the pommel, the pommel being marked ‘2 K F R E’ and ‘120’. Short cross guard with muzzle ring. Housed in its steel mounted leather scabbard. Straight blade with fuller to the back edge, acceptance stamps and Wilkinson makers mark to the base. Blade with some spotting and wear.

General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Malaya, G.VI.R. (Fg. Off. G. A. Ironside. R.A.F) mounted for display on card, with named card box of issue, nearly extremely fine £100-£140 --- George Alexander Ironside joined the Royal Air Force as a Cadet Pilot with effect from 14 November 1951. He was flying Mosquito RF955 of 204 A.F.S., when the following occurred on 8 February 1952, near Sparkford, Somerset: ‘The starboard engine failed and the propeller was feathered. When the port engine throttle was opened, this did not deliver the expected power and crew; Pilot Officer G. A. Ironside and Pilot Officer C. G. Wilkinson abandoned aircraft successfully.’ (Last Take-Off - A Record of R.A.F. Aircraft Losses 1950-53 by C. Cummings refers) Ironside advanced to Flying Officer in November 1952, and his medal box of issue is endorsed with the number ‘52’ on the side. The latter possibly indicates that he served with 52 Squadron at Changi during operations in Malaya. Ironside’s career was short-lived, with the London Gazette of 3 March 1953 recording his rank as reverting to Pilot Officer and his Commission being terminated with effect from 3 February 1953. A fine gilded example made by Henry Wilkinson with a steel 280mm blade etched ‘Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London’ with faceted top, double fullered, etched crowned regimental crest with Egypt sphinx below, vacant shield cartouche, the opposite side with battle honours, with ebonised wooden grip carved with basket weave and inset with brass studs, the opposite side with crossed swords and bonnet, the gilded metal mounts finely embossed and chased with thistles, with a faceted amber glass pommel, overall length 420mm, in its black leather scabbard with gilded metal mounts stamped 'R.&H.B. Kirkwood, 66 & 68 Thistle St. Edinburgh' with queen's crown, with integral bi-knife and fork each with yellow glass pommel, very good condition £1,400-£1,800 --- This is an age restricted lot: the successful buyer will be required to either collect in person, or arrange specialist shipping.

Sword- A Georgian customs/ police issue short-bladed sabre, brass hilt and guard with bronze grip. The blade signed Wilkinson and with broad arrow markings. brass mounted brown leather scabbard.

General scuffs, scratches and blemishes seen throughout, commensurate with age and use. Cap to one ink well is stuck. Nibbles seen to the edges of the glass bodies. Nicks and scratches seen to the footrims of the ink wells. Sits well against flat surface. Ink wells wobble when in place.
