FOUR PIECES OF CLARICE CLIFF CERAMICS, comprising a Newport Pottery pale pink Water Lily jardiniere (some light crazing), a sauce boat decorated with ears of wheat by A. J. Wilkinson Ltd (slight staining on edge of rim) and two Newport Pottery tea plates in Ravel and Corolla patterns (the former has a firing crack verso, which does not appear to go through the plate) (4) (Condition Report: generally good condition, obvious specific damage as stated)
Local Interest* 'WILK' John William (Bill) Wilkinson (British 1906-1994) an amusing ink and watercolour caricature, entitled 'Believe It Or Not It Happened At Grasmere' a depiction of five 'tups' painted in the colours of the tricolor, the onlooking animals including 'The Lion and The Lamb' watching in astonishment, signed lower right, within a slender ebonised frame, under glass 40cm x 50cm & 42cm x 52cm overall. *'Wilk' or John William 'Bill' Wilkinson was born, lived and died in Brigham, Keswick. On leaving school he started work at a bobbin mill and went on to become a fitter for the Keswick Gas Company. In 1954 with his wife Mary he opened a shop in the front room of his house 'Greta Cottage'. He became famous for his gentle and amusing caricatures of Lakeland life and characters.
Worldwide Three generations of worldwide collections in four cartons, with many thousands of mint and used stamps from classics onwards in over forty albums, the grandfather's collection is in 17 of the loose-leaf volumes with a useful range including China with 2cts red revenue surcharge used, Amoy 1896 blue 'Half Cent' surcharge shifted to right on 4cts brown mint, a few Communist issues, etc, GB incl. decent penny black with four margins though close at one corner, the later collections more basic yet still with thousands of different stamps, the most recent on pages in seven box files. Also a small stack of pre-decimal sheets incl. ten Wilding regionals (Scotland to 1/3d and I.o.M.) and 1963 Bradbury/Wilkinson £1 castle plate 1A (cat. £520 as singles), plus a few shoeboxes of loose stamps in envelopes, some mixed postal history, etc. Please inspect.
Great Britain Excellent balance of the seahorses from a specialist collector of the Kings reigns, after selection of Lots 33-46. Thirty earlier issues and twenty re-engraved, many absolutely superb used, especially Waterlow 5/- rose-carmine and pale rose-carmine shades, 10/- indigo-blue beautifully centred with rich colour (Holcombe opinion), De La Rue 2/6d bright yellow-brown and 5/- carmine, Bradbury/Wilkinson 5/- rose-carmine (RPS cert), etc. Also present but not counted are Waterlow £1 deep green mint well-centred and good colour but stain spot showing through on top margin, B/W 10/- MNH toned otherwise perfect, and 2/6d and 5/- re-engraved MNH toned gum. Catalogue excluding these four stamps is well over £7,000.
Great Britain Collection in a clean de-luxe Windsor album from a Scottish estate, concentrating on pre-1930 issues, especially 19th century with many very attractive stamps assembled with quality in mind. Highlights are three penny blacks with four-margins incl. worn plate, beautiful 2d blue (plate 2) with generous and balanced margins all round and light cancel, many perf 'stars' varieties on extra pages, some superb used, incl. SG.17 strip of four, SG.22 wmk inverted, SG.25, circular town and Scottish Street cancels, etc. Then later 1d plates set to 225, selected copies with virtually no faults, the 225 absolutely sound with neat cancel, followed by 1854 6d embossed with two four-margin shades and a good range of surface-printed again with quality generally well above the usual. Later reigns less intensive, nevertheless including Bradbury Wilkinson seahorses with decent used trio of 2/6d shades and 10/- superb cds (shadow of cancellation on top perfs - not thin as it could appear in the photo), as well as the 1929 £1 PUC mint with relatively fresh gum. Great Britain A collection on Windsor pages in a binder, principally KEVII to QEII with excellent Kings, though does include limited line-engraved with four-margin penny black and a nice range of imperf 1d reds, also superb 1883/4 5/- rose with crisp Hull cds. The KEVII is exciting with quality sought on both mint/MNH and used, with highlights incl. superb used 1902 De La Rue 10/-, Somerset House printings with fresh and vibrant mint 2/6d (two shades), 5/- and 10/- blue (SG.319, cat. £1,100) as well as the £1 used with clear and central cds. KGV also strong with Downey heads looking all MNH, through to seahorses incl. £1 green cds and nicely centred, other Waterlows attractive used to 10/-, Bradbury/Wilkinson 2/6d shades mint, and further better with 1929 £1 PUC used, QEII castles looking complete mint and used, etc. Much more here to inspect.
Late Victorian dress swordcirca 1870-1880, with a shagreen pommel, brass handle and plated scabbard, the handle and the blade bearing the Royal cypher, the blade engraved with the crown and scrolling foliage decoration, numbered '13697', made by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, 98cm long together with a bayonet, with an engraving bearing 'P.D.L' and numbered '8699' (2) Both have signs of wear consistent with age and use. The bayonet with rusting. The sword's pommel with a dent.
A British 1888 pattern bayonet and scabbard, by Wilkinson of London, military issue. Blade length - 30cm, overall - 44cm.Good overall condition, general wear. Blase scratched with some pitting. Tip slightly rubbed over. Various impressed marks, including some over-stamped: Wilkinson London. Scabbard good, no splits or tears but quite rubbed.

Samuel Wilkinson of Spalding (Lincs) - 19th century 8-day oak longcase clock c 1830, with an inlaid pagoda pediment and two ball and spire finials, break arch hood door flanked by reeded pilaster with brass capitals, trunk with canted corners and a spire toped long door, plinth with an applied shaped skirting, painted dial with geometric spandrels and a depiction of a bird and foliage to the break arch, upright Arabic numerals, quarter hour minutes and non-matching brass hands, with a subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture, dial pinned via a false plate to a rack striking movement, striking the hours on a cast bell.With weights and pendulum. A Set of Three Victorian Silver-Gilt Salt-Cellars, by Henry Wilkinson and Co., Sheffield, 1839, 1842 and 1843, each in the Gothic style, the openwork sides stamped with foliage, on similar base, with conforming blue glass liners, 70mm high, 8oz 1dwt, 249gr (3)Each fully marked underneath. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The liners with some very minor chips to the edges. There gilding is somewhat pale, though the surface is tarnished so it is difficult to determine the surface underneath.
