The lobes are outlined with a black and brick red glazed border featuring a phoenix with wings spread and flowing tail feathers while perched on a stumpy flowering tree with gilt highlights and cobalt underglazed trunk, all on a white ground. The bowl is surrounded by a thick black lacquered moulded frame with hand painted gilt floral forms. cursively inscribed on underside “2390” and “20130”.Condition: No chips evident on charger. The stalwart creatures feature incised seats and tasseled saddle blankets with an allover pattern of fretwork, shells, foliate forms and clouds. The sides of the blankets each feature the incised motif of a vase of flowers on a delicate pine needle ground.Condition: Very minor chips.
