AN OAK EIGHT DAY LONGCASE CLOCK with 30cm break arched and painted dial, date sector and subsidiary seconds dial, swan neck pediment and turned pillars, the trunk enclosed by a breakarched door, 210cm h, early 19th c++One hand incomplete, the signature to the dial worn off, the movement extremely dirty but apparently complete retaining the bell, pendulum and two iron weights. Seat board old, the cheeks not packed, the pediment with several old breaks and held together by old pieces of wire, the upper part of the case in particular the hood in a crackled varnish, heavily ingrained with dirt. A GEORGE III OAK EIGHT DAY DEVON LONGCASE CLOCK WILLIAM HARRIS, HATHERLEIGH the 31cm brass dial signed on the silvered chapter ring Willm Harris HATHERLEIGH, engraved to the centre with two scenes and inscribed JOHN SELDON HATHERLEIGH, having subsidiary seconds dial and date sector, mask spandrels, the hood with ogee dentil cornice, blind fret frieze and pilasters, the trunk enclosed by an almost full length panelled door, 217cm h, c1790 Both William Harris and John Seldon, presumably for whom the clock was made are listed in the Universal British Directory, c1794, as a `watch and clock-maker, shopkeeper` and `maltster, respectively. ++A particularly attractive 18th c Devon dial with its original movement, both extremely dirty but apparently complete and unrestored on replacement seat board of perhaps 40 years age. Presumably long associated to the case since the cheeks are packed. The hour hand slightly damaged and the glass in the door to the foot cracked. The case 18th c and of pleasing old dry appearance with one or two minor old replacements and fault but not subject to any restoration. Sold with two iron weights and pendulum with brass bob. Long in present private ownership and consigned by a Devon family

The case with a number of old modifications and repair. Sold with two weights, one of which is brass sleeved and a pendulum with brass bob
A SCOTTISH GEORGE IV MAHOGANY EIGHT DAY LONGCASE CLOCK, ROBERT CRAIG, KILMARNOCK the 31cm engraved brass breakarched dial with ringed winding holes, date aperture and subsidiary seconds dial, signed on a convex disc to the arch Robt Craig KILMARNOCK, having mask and dolphin spandrels, the case with rudimentary swan neck pediment and spiral fluted pillars, the trunk with fluted pilasters, 215cm h, c1830 Provenance: Purchased from Jean Megahy of Glasgow on 26th August 1961 for £22.0.0.; thence by descent to the present vendors.++Dial with old polish residues and lacking one hand, original to the movement, the movement reasonably clean and complete, the plates to the movement with outset `feet`, the seat board old, possibly original, the cheeks packed with various pieces of old and wormed wood, the hood with modifications and probably associated to the trunk. Sold with two weights and pendulum with brass bob. Painted to the inside of the trunk door are a number of old newspaper cuttings and a photograph. The lower part of the trunk slightly speckled with white paint. Restored for the late owner by Kenneth Chapelle of Glasgow in October 1985.
