It remains in good physical condition. The hood lacks the finials and has a replacement handle to the door. The dial is in good condition, but lacks the hand from the subsidiary seconds dial. The seatboard has some packing pieces beneath it, so the movement and case may be matched. The clock does not have a pendulum or weights.

There are some minor well executed veneer repairs. Lacks finials from hood. The putty has been renewed to the glazing. The dial is in VG condition, with minor retouches to the edges. The seatboard appears to be original and the movement and case appear to be original to each other. The back feet are missing from the case. The clock is complete with cast iron weights but the pendulum is missing.

A Japanese cloisonné vase - Meiji period (1869-1912), of shouldered baluster form, decorated with a pheasant perched in the branches of a blossoming apple tree, the trunk with a climbing vine with pink flowers, the base with a shallow band of lappets and the rim a band of stylised flowers, all on a dark blue ground, 24cm high, with later carved hardwood stand.* In good condition, with no damage, bruises, cracks or losses to the enamel and no restoration.
A George III mahogany eight-day longcase clock by Richard Biggs of Rumsey (Romsey) - the arched brass dial signed to the centre, with a subsidiary seconds dial, arched date aperture and engraved leafy scrolls, within a Roman chapter ring and gilt-brass floral and C-scroll spandrels, the arch with painted rocking ship automata, fronting a twin train 8-day movement with four knopped pillars, bell strike and anchor escapement, the case with dentil carved arched hood with fluted columns (glass cracked), an arched trunk door with boxwood-strung edges and a plain base with swept feet, 215 cm high.* Very original condition and the case and movement do appear to be original to each other. The glass is cracked. The hood is nicely quality with finely carved columns and dentil carving. Lacks finials. The dial has a nice original patina and the painting to the rocking ship appears original. The case has a good colour and nicely original surface. There is a small piece to the mask around the hood glazing which has been off and glued back in place. The sides of the trunk are free from splits. The inside of the trunk door has a little old (inactive) worm but it is minor. The door lacks the escutcheon. The base has a small split to the top edge of the right hand side panel. The pendulum has snapped off at the lower end of the rod.

A late 18th century Scottish eight day oak longcase clock, requiring restoration - the arched brass dial signed to the arch 'Andrew Scott, Edinburgh', with a silvered Roman chapter ring and gilt brass foliate and C-scroll spandrels, the centre with a subsidiary seconds dial, circular date aperture and engraved with leafy scrolls, fronting a bell strike movement with four knopped pillars, complete with cast iron weights and pendulum (the steel spring broken), the oak case with fluted columns and a serpentine arched trunk door, 202.5cm high.

A 19th century camphorwood brass inlaid military trunk, with carrying handle to either side. Height 41 cm, width 91 cm, depth 47 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The chest has been heavily restored and re varnished . The brasswork around the edges has steel and copper nails and the top is very slightly distorted and kicks out at the front right-hand side. The top has a split to the rear left-hand side in three places, more to the front left, a repair to the front right and all the way up the right-hand side. There are further splits to all sides of the chest but none of these are particularly open other than the one at the rear and the ones to the base.
John Smorthwaite of Colchester, an eight day longcase clock with silvered and brass dial, the hood with three eagle finials and with columns the trunk with arched door and ebony and boxwood stringing. Overall height including finial 227 cm, width 51 cm, depth 25 cm with weights and pendulum (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The dial sheet is 41.5 cm x 30.5 cm. The trunk width is 34 cm.
A double-sided illustrated album folio : a Kathak dance and a study of a blue-throated barbet after the Mughal artist Ustad Mansur (d. 1624AD)Awadh, provincial Mughal, circa 1760-80Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, two ladies holding hands dancing, laid on card within white rules and margins with gold scrolling tendrils against dark blue ground, within orange, blue and gold rules, wide gold floral borders, laid on card ; the reverse with a study of a perched green feathered bird, opaque and transparent pigments on paper, similarly laid, gold foliate tendril on dark blue ground, large gold speckled dark cream borders, thin gold and blue rules, laid on card, framed and glazedfolio, 39.5 x 27cm., 40 x 27.2cm framedFootnotes: A very similar painting depicting two female dancers in the same pose as ours, attributed to early 18th century Mughal India, is now kept at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Although slightly smaller in format the Victoria and Albert Museum example shows the same proportions and composition. Both paintings share the realistic rendering of the dancers' elegant energy whirling their garments and sashes. The museum records it was formerly part of an album bought from "Lieut. Col. Murdoch Smith, Teheran" (inv. 132:27-1885).Condition Report: The folio's edges are scuffed, some with minimal losses. The edges are in fair condition although solely in part. The laid borders' corners are lacking safe for the upper left one. Their edges are irregular with some losses, tears and repaired tears.The painting presents as clean overall. A closer inspection reveals some crease, staining, and white speckles inclusions. Two hair cracks resulting from marked creases affect this painting : the first, most visible, runs vertically from upper margin to lower margin, affecting the veil of the dancer, her upper and lower leg. Along the crease fold, near the veil, a brownish deposit can be noticed. The second crease runs vertically on approximately 10cm. along the left blue border to the centre of the painting. Upon close inspection, some minimal drop stains can be seen to the actual right of the left hand side dancer. Some scattered very minute losses can also be noticed the the surface of this painting. The margins are in good condition overall. The wide borders are in fair condition with some staining and some creasing.The study of the blue-throated barbet is affected by a long crease which, in place, resulted in a tear. It runs vertically from the upper blue margin, approximately 2.5cm. form it upper left corner, down to the middle of the lower wide border, approximately 3cm. from the edge. it affects the upper part of the left tuft of grass, the tip of the bird's tail, the lower leaf of the sprig below the bird, the side of the trunk, the lower margin, rules and border. The margins are slightly rubbed and discoloured. This is especially noticeable to the lower part of the lower left side and corner. The wider borders are stained.Please note this lot was not inspected under U. V to prepare this condition report.
