A Louis Vuitton case, with leather bound edge, stamped "Louis Vuitton" to the lock and "LV" to the hasps. 72 cm x 44 cm x 23 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The handle is serviceable however the leather to the right-hand side by the brass bracket is worn through and detached. The left hand side is badly perished. The handle is however secure and functional. There is further perishing to the leather on the remainder of the handle. The interior of the trunk is in generally good condition with only minor scuffs and blemishes as one would expect. There are no interior dividers. All metalwork is present and original. All corner bindings are in reasonable condition but do have scuffs and abrasions as one would expect. The trunk is generally scuffed and marked but there are no perforations or losses to the canvas. There are however numerous scuffs, marks, scratches and losses to the paintwork. The leather corner bindings are all intact but with numerous old marks and scuffs. The hinges and closing mechanisms operate as they should. We do not have a key for the lock.
An early 19th century mahogany longcase clock, with swans neck pediment with blind fretwork above the arched glazed door enclosing the 11.5 inch arched painted dial with moon phase and eight day striking movement by Jn. Smith Pittenweem flanked by fluted columns, with long trunk door and conforming base with bracket feet. Height 207 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The hood is in generally good condition and of good colour. There has been an old break between the swan's necks which should be visible on our image. This is minor. The trunk is in generally good order. The door is not warped and there are no problems with the sides of the case or base. The backboards are original. There is some very long gone old woodworm holes in the softwood on the backboards but these are very minor. We have both weights and pendulum. The movement appears to be complete and is striking and the movement appears to be ticking also. We have not tested the moon phase. The dial is in original untouched condition with some minor surface scratches and paint losses. The most evident damage being to points behind two of the movement pillars. We do not think that the clock is a marriage as the cheeks are not built up and the mask fits around the dial.
An early 19th century oak and mahogany crossbanded longcase clock by Graham of Cockermouth, with two-train movement and painted dial. CONDITION REPORT: The clock hood is in generally good condition with no significant damage, losses or restoration. The glass in intact. The painted dial is a little dirty, scuffed and marked but has no significant problems. The movement appears to be complete. The catgut is detached from the going train. The clock does however tick when pressure is applied to the barrel. In our opinion the movement is likely to work but will need the catgut reattaching and would probably benefit from a clean. We have both weights and the pendulum. We cannot open the trunk door as unfortunately there is no key. The trunk is in generally good condition. The backboards are in good order. There is some woodworm to the bottom 3 inches of base. This is most evident on the sides of the clock case and on the bottom board of the base which in an ideal world should be removed. The plinth return moulding left and right is missing. There is also a moulding below the crossbanding on the trunk door. The left hand return section of this is also missing. The width of clock at widest point 55 cm, height 216 cm.
A George III oak longcase clock by William Nicholson of Whitehaven, with thirty hour movement, the case with swans neck pediment, long trunk door, reeded quarter column corners and raised on bracket feet. Height 210 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This is a 30 hour clock. It has false winding apertures in order to make it appear as 8 day clocks which were much more expensive to make. The hood is in generally good condition with the exception of a cracked glass. There will also have been something between the swans necks which is missing, possibly a wheatsheaf. The remainder of the hood is in generally good order with only minor surface scratches and marks as one would expect. The brass dial is in good order but has lost much of its silvering. We have the clock weight and pendulum which is unfortunately missing the metal suspension. The clock does however tick without the pendulum and strikes as it should. The seatboard that would support the movement is missing. The movement does however fit the door aperture and we do not think that the clock is a marriage. The case is a typical Cumbrian case. The door is not warped, the sides of the case are in good order as are the base and bracket feet. The case is a little dry and could do with a good wax.
