Exquisite Leon Casimir Bru Jne bisque shoulder head Bebe doll, size 8, with rare original label, French 1884-89, with pale bisque head, fixed brown glass paper-weight eyes with shaded lids, finely painted lashes and feather brows, closed mouth with delicately shaded lips and hint of tongue, pierced ears and cork pate with shoulder length auburn wig, swivel head to bisque shoulder plate with sculpted bosom, on a gusseted kid leather body with scalloped edge at shoulders, kid over wood upper arms hinged at elbows to well modelled bisque lower arms, with detailed fingers, chevrot jointed hips and painted wooden lower legs, having original cream and red paper label to chest, wearing a later pink silk dress with lace detail, large pink bow and matching elaborate bonnet, underclothes, socks and white cream kid leather shoes with pink ribbons, incised Bru Jne, 8, to back of head and Bru, No 8 to shoulder plate, 21 ½” (55cm) tall, (condition: head perfect, four fingers professionally restored), together with her grey canvas trunk with tray, and trousseau including a black velvet mourning dress and bonnet, a blue cotton summer dress, cream coat with lace to collar, green smocked dress and pinafore, white undergarments, black shoes and a bonnet.

A CHINESE SOAPSTONE CARVING OF AN ELEPHANT LATE QING DYNASTY Standing four-square with its trunk outstretched towards one side, wearing a saddle carpet incised with a watery landscape scene depicting a blossoming prunus tree and figures boating over gentle waves under a full moon, ornamented with beaded tassels, 18cm. Provenance: from the collection of Lieutenant Colonel W D Francis OBE, who served in Central Asia, including in the Kurram Militia, during the early 20th century. He was awarded an OBE in 1946.

Condition ReportSurface scratches, scuffs and knocks to the wood. Areas of fading and discolouration. Areas of loss to the wood, veneer and stinging. Evidence of old worm in places. crazing and damage to the enamel face and wear to the painted decoration. General wear and tear. See photos.
