A Derby group of Touch from a set of the senses, the seated young woman accosted by Cupid bearing arrows and wearing a diadem in her hair, puce edged bodice, turquoise apron and flowered skirt with pink shoes, the tree trunk from which Cupid's yellow quiver hangs and rocky base heavily encrusted with a profusion of brightly coloured flowers and leaves, 25cm h, patch marks, dealer's label ,c1765-70 Provenance: D.M. & P. Manheim. Touch or 'Feeling' and the four other figures which make up the set were first issued about 1765 and were allocated number 59 in the Derby factory list. Although apparently in the style of Pierre Stephan, they were available at least five years before the modeller's arrival in England. See Bradshaw (Peter) - Derby Porcelain Figures 1750-1848, pp118 and 216. Tiny chip to the diadem, thumb and forefinger of right hand restored, some typical minor damage to the encrusted flowers, cupid's wings restored, a firing crack in the lower part of the gold skirt which is not too noticeable (Please see lot 237 for image)
An oak longcase clock, the 12 inch painted dial with date sector, subsidiary seconds dial, ringed winding holes signed indistinctly H Bar..., having floral spandrels and a medallion of a girl to the arch, fitted eight day movement in crossbanded case with swan neck pediment and fruitwood pillars, a shaped door to the trunk, 214cm h Some old repainting to the dial. A couple of vertical splits in the base and later boarded plinth but in otherwise sound original condition. The dial, case and movement original.
