dating: Late 19th Century provenance: India, Strong and long, straight, double-edged blade (probably more antique), ribbed and strongly enlarged at the tip, the rest of the surface featuring two pairs of convergent segments in the center, with fuller. Unusual, iron hilt, richly inlaid in gold. The blade is held by an element portraying an in-the-round elephant's head, complete with a long trunk, curved outwards, two chiselled dents composing animal's fangs and ears on sides. The surface is engraved and inlaid in gold to outline the eyes, animal's features and its harness with false pendants and floral decorations. The head is fixed by two tangs with rivets to the large knuckle-guard, ribbed in the center, decorated in the upper part with a horse, with in-the-round head and lower hoofs. Richly inlaid in gold with floral drawings; gilded horse's head and hoofs, festooned border provided with some holes. Portraying two, mirror, engraved and gilded deer on the back. Both lateral bars, outlined and engraved with a peacock, with richly gilded head and plumage. Internal part of the bars is gilded with floral and geometrical motifs. The grip composed of two crossbars decorated with grooved pillar, gilded, large central knots and rings. length 66 cm.
