A late George III mahogany longcase clock, the case having broken swan neck pediment above a dentil cornice and fluted column supports, having a shaped trunk door flanked by fluted chamfered corners, raised on a box base with bracket feet, the movement having a 13-inch broken arch Roman painted dial, set second subsidiary and date dials, and having a two-train anchor movement, striking bell. A George III and later oak longcase clock, the hood with cornice with dental moulding, flanked by columns, plain trunk with door, brass dial with Roman numeral chapter ring, flanked by spindles, signed John Tomes, 211cm high, weights and pendulum. CONDITION REPORT: some marks, wear to case, otherwise good.
Mainly Cretaceous period, 140-70 million years BP. A mixed group of fossil items comprising: seven pieces of fossilised whalebone showing stratification; a section fossilised wood showing borings by shipworm; five Cretaceous echinoid casts in flint; two blocks of limestone with bracheopod fossils; a Cretaceous flint nodule showing bracheopods; a piece of pumice; a cross-section block of mineralised tree trunk. 4.3 kg total, 4-17cm (1 3/4 - 6 3/4"). Property of an Essex, UK collector; acquired on the UK art market, 1980-1990. [18, No Reserve] Mainly fine condition.
