A PAIR OF EBONISED AND GILDED LAMPS AFTER A DESIGN BY THOMAS HOPE, OF RECENT MANUFACTURE Each utilising the sofa ends from Hope's 1802 design, with carved leopard above base with Egyptian style hieroglyphs highlighted in gold, scarabs to the sides each 63.5cm high, 31.5cm wide The 'Egyptomania' couch, designed by Thomas Hope for his home in Duchess Street, London is now held in Buscot Park, Faringdon, Oxfordshire.
A REGENCY MAHOGANY AND LINE INLAID SOFA TABLE CIRCA 1815 74cm high, 151cm wide (with leaves up), 71cm deep One drawer with paper label from the antiques dealers, J. H. Pratt, dated March 10th 1940: 'This table was purchased from L. H. Shore-Nightingale Esq. of Lea Hurst, Holloway, Derbyshire. This was the house of Florence Nightingale, and the table was in use when she lived there.' Condition Report: Overall there are some scratches, marks, chips, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.The top with some fading/water mark, the leaves with repaired cracks, some inset timber to the ruled joints.The handles are later, there is no key.It is difficult to discern because of the stain, but it is possible that the lopers are later.Please see all the additional condition report photographs through the link on the condition report email as a visual reference of condition. Y A REGENCY ROSEWOOD AND GILT BRASS MOUNTED SOFA TABLE ATTRIBUTED TO GILLOWS, CIRCA 1810 73cm high, 93cm wide, 61cm deep This elegant sofa table can be attributed to Gillows of London and Lancaster who made particular use of this type of downswept end-supports on many of their tables. A closely related calamander writing-table by Gillows, has almost identical ends filled with spindles above a lozenge panel and relates to a sketch dated 1818 in their Estimate Sketch Books, number 2079 (G. Wills, Craftsmen and Cabinet-Makers of Classic English Furniture, Edinburgh, 1974, pp. 117-118, figs. 108-109). An almost identical sofa table was sold, Christie's, New York, Important English Furniture, 18th October 2005, Lot 353 ($36,000). Condition Report: Table in very tidy/presentable order overall. It bear the the marks knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. The expected minor old chips and splits. Some slight sun fading to timber of top. No key present but both locks are open. Some old veneer repairs in places - see images for details. Very slight warping to one hinged leaf. The legs with the expected minor chips and knocks. Upholstery with some detached sections of piping and some small tears to arms and one to back. Pair of reproduction mahogany sofa tables, Regency style, satinwood crossbanding, two short drawers, brass caps and casters, width 96cm, depth 51cm, height 72cm.Qty: 2Condition report:Both tops have fine surface scratches. One has sticky residue which is removable with a fingernail. It also has some more obvious scratches to one side panel. The drawers and legs are sound. Please see additional uploaded images.
