A PAIR OF ROSEWOOD 'NV46' ARMCHAIRS, BY FINN JUHL, ATTRIBUTED TO NILS VODDER, Danish, 1960's upholstered in black leather.Provenance; Purchased Denmark in the 1960's; Gowan Group, Ballsbridge, Dublin, where they have sat in their boardroomFinn Juhl was one of the great masters of mid-20th-century Danish design and one of the first to be recognized internationally. The Danish aesthetic of ‘form follows function’ inspired Juhl to embrace expressive, free-flowing shapes in chair and sofa designs much earlier than his colleagues, yet even his quietest pieces incorporate supple, curving forms that are at once elegant and ergonomic. These chairs sat in the boardroom of The Gown Group in Ballsbridge and are a fine example of Finn Juhl’s most beautiful work. They were originally designed in 1946 for the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition for master cabinetmaker Niels Vodder.
