The readings, given despite Dickens's fragile state of health, included episodes from Pickwick Papers , Oliver Twist and the perennial favourite A Christmas Carol . The tickets for these Final Readings were hugely sought after and on 15th March Dickens faced an audience of some two thousand people, with many more having been turned away. '', words which were inscribed on his funeral card distributed at Westminster Abbey three months later. A rare and significant piece of Dickensiana in excellent condition.
