A Regency mahogany and calamander crossbanded sofa table, circa 1815, 70cm high, 138cm wide (when open), 65cm deep For a similar sofa table of the period incorporating calamander banding, see Christies, Important English Furniture, 8th April 2004, Lot 282 (£15,535). Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions consistent with age and use. Some old splits and chips. Some areas of grain filler to surface. Some sports of filler/dark wax applied to the top in places. Three splits across the top with some filler used to help disguise. Old 'butterfly' repairs made to the underside of the top to secure these splits. Some later supporting blocks to interior of carcass. Minor downward warping of hinges leaves. Some wear to surface of handles and castors. Key present and operates both locks. Some later screws to hinges at underside of top. Some small sections of stringing to edge of top. Y A Regency rosewood and brass inlaid sofa table, circa 1815, 71cm high, 149cm wide (when open), 69cm deepCondition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. Of cleaned/polished appearance. Key present and operates both locks. Two small old nails to the front edge of the top securing a split. Later small block of timber applied to one side of the table so that the leaf rests at 90 degrees when closed. Later dark wash applied to the underside of the table and interior of carcass. Evidence of old worm to legs. Worm holes have been disguised with filler/dark wax. Small amounts of filler applied to surface in places. Y A Regency rosewood sofa table, circa 1815, in the manner of Gillows, incorporating boxwood stringing and marquetry, 71.5cm high, 157.5cm wide (when open), 69cm deep This sofa table bears comparison to a pair of tables supplied by Gillows of Oxford Street in 1803 to Stephen Tempest for Broughton Hall, Yorkshire, also featuring the distinctive curved stretchers though the latter were fitted with games boards within the drawers (see Susan Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730 - 1840, Woodbridge, 2008, p. 264, pl. 268). A similar table was sold anonymously Christie's, London, 24 April 2008, lot 122 (£17,300 including premium). For a further example see Christie's, London, The Collector, 13th November 2018, Lot 131 (£8,750). Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old splits and chips. Some fading to timber. Some neatly repaired splits to top with filler used to help disguise - see images. Some evidence of old worm to frieze at each end and to legs. Old worm hoes to legs have had old filler/dark wax applied to help disguise. Neatly executed old repair made to split through tip of one leg. Knocks, splits, scratches and general wear. Joints solid. One roundel off but present. Tops appear generally flat when fully open. One with a couple of splits and repairs but generally in fair order. Please see additional photos. Neither drawer runs the full depth of the table, despite there being runners and stops suggesting that they ought to.

A Regency brass inset rosewood sofa table, the top with D shaped flaps inlaid with a band of scrolling foliage, over two frieze drawers, on squared stem with saltire platform and giltwood lion's paw feet with concealed brass castors, W.3ft 2in. D.2ft 3in. opens out to 4ft 11in. H.2ft 4in.CONDITION: Looks to have been restored 10 - 20 years ago, colour remains rich but some of the brass to the banding is just starting to lift and a few short sections of stringing are missing, platform base has a few old cracks running through it and gilt feet with a little wear and some light cracking but overall fair to good condition.

H.2ft 6in.CONDITION: Overall in honest but used condition, the original upholstery is now faded particularly on the tops of the arms and the upper areas of the back cushions, seat cushions feel like the inner stuffing is deteriorating with the springs slightly sticking out in places, frame looks to have the original dark finish albeit now a little dull.
