WARD BENNETT [AMERICAN, 1917-2003], UPHOLSTERED SOFA, H 24", L 84", BRICKEL ASSOC. INC.: Oblong sofa with encircling arms, upholstered in eggplant purple velvet; Brickel Associates label [see additional photo]. Ward Bennett, 1917-2003, American designer, artist and sculptor. Provenance: The Estate of Roger Margerum [1930-2015], a Detroit-based architect known for his innovative light filled designs. His works include the Ambassador Bridge shelter, The Air force Academy in Colorado Springs, Hart Plaza, and his own home, a 45 degree polygon house built on Detroit’s east side once featured in the Fall 2008 issue of Detroit Home magazine. He passed away in June at the age of 85.
A good early 20th Century three piece Suite in Queen Anne style comprising a three seater Sofa and two single Armchairs, each piece with arched back and outset scrolling arms, each on walnut cabriole legs carved at the knees with scallop shells and terminating in tightly carved claw and ball feet, the Sofa approx. 180cm wide
An early 19th Century inlaid mahogany and crossbanded sofa table The rectangular top with two hinged canted leaves, with a broad crossbanded border above two frieze drawers opposed by two faux drawers, each with brass roundel handles, raised on plain end rectangular supports, down swept legs, brass shoes and castors, joined by an arched stretcher, 72x153x68cm.
