Vuillard“.Das hier angebotene Gemälde unterstreicht in seinem ganzen Wesen Vuillards Talent, nicht nur Portraits malen zu können, sondern auch intime Interieurszenen psychologisch genau auf Leinwand zu bannen. Den Kopf leicht geneigt, die Hände mit einem weißen Taschentuch spielend, welches das kompositorische Zentrum des Bildes ist und welches wirkungsvoll mit dem schwarzen Kleid kontrastiert, sitzt die Frau auf dem roten Divan, der wie ein horizontaler Balken die Bildmitte bezeichnet und mit der Dame eine Kreuzform bildet – eine Spannung, die das Auge des Betrachters in ständige Bewegung versetzt. Im Hintergrund an der Wand ein europäisches Grisaillerelief und rechts einer der japanischen Holzschnitte, an deren Wesen sich Vuillard als Teil der Nabis orientierte.
