A George III mahogany framed sofa upholstered in a floral Art Nouveau style fabric, with fluted show frame raised on eight tapering fluted legs, 182 cm wide (Provenance : by repute the property of Thomas Lefroy, one time friend and suitor of Jane Austen, from Carrigglas Manor, County Longford, Ireland, and believed to have been the inspiration for the character of Mr. Darcy in "Pride & Prejudice". For further information please contact the Auctioneers) CONDITION REPORTS Overall with wear, scuffs and chips, generally with various areas of restoration and replacement sections including to legs, finials, etc., various splits, deterioration to finish particularly to back and legs, and evidence of previous tack/nail holes, sofa appears to have been relatively recently re-upholstered.
