Y A GEORGE III ROSEWOOD AND LINE INLAID SOFA TABLEATTRIBUTED TO GILLOWS, CIRCA 1800The top banded in casuarina oak (partridge wood)73cm high, 155cm wide, 83cm deepSold Christies, London, 7th June 2007, lot 163 (£11,400) having been previously acquired from Moss Harris & Sons in 1967. The elegant high arched braces beneath the top of the current sofa table are characteristic of Gillows designs and make a more elegant alternative to the more common cross stretchers. For an almost identical sofa table, see Christie's, London, Important English Furniture, 12th November 1998, Lot 68 (£9,200). Condition Report: There are scratches, marks, knocks, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.There are losses, restorations and observations including:The table is clean, with slightly gloss finish.The drawer linings are oak with later handles, patched to the interior where the handles fit. The table has two frieze drawers to each side.Few signs of worm.Some staining to the brass cappings and casters.Later reinforcing above the arched stretcher in the form of an iron fillet, the end sections of wood onto which it fixes probably later.Please see the additional photographs as a visual reference of condition.Condition Report Disclaimer

Steps leading to dark green front door with embossed metal knocker and letter box. Front opens in two wings to six rooms, four rooms with original tinplate fireplaces and wooden surrounds and mantels, hallway and two landing and staircase to all floors and hinged internal doors. Kitchen with papered marble floor, furniture includes large wooden dresser, wooden kitchen table, chair and tinplate stove, accessories include pewter cooking vessels, two glass decanters and more, three early Dolls House dolls (one lacks foot), ground floor Study with Waltershausen desk, piano and table, light wood table and chest of drawers, mirror and more, first floor Dining Room with good paper lithographed flower decorated suite comprising cupboard with shelves, sideboard with mirror, sofa, table and four chairs, together with a day bed, various ornaments and china head doll, Salon with a blue silk flower patterned suite of furniture, early wooden sideboard with painted marble top, Waltershausen sideboard with mirror and three child dolls, top floor Bedroom with single bed with blue silk, light wood bureau, table, four chairs and settee all upholstered in pink silk and tassels, various pictures and mirrors, gilt bird cage and more and two parian dolls, top floor Nursery with good set of paper lithographed furniture decorated with rose buds and angles, gilt Grandfather clock, soft metal cabinet with ornaments and piano, mother parian doll, baby and son together with tiny doll in walnut, Hallway and landing with two parian ladies and two children in wagon and gilt birdcage with wax bird, house on a later stand, 43 ½” (111cm) tall, not including stand, 33” (84cm) wide, 17” (43cm) deep, (condition: generally very good, balcony front possibly replaced, some minor paper loss to façade). A modern George III style scroll arm sofa with hump back on shell carved cabriole legs to claw and ball feet, bears Arthur Brett & Sons Limited of Norwich label to underside, 230 cm wide x approx 90 cm deep x approx 91 cm high (to match Lot 631) CONDITION REPORTS Appears in basically overall good condition. Rear middle support leg with large chip, obviously not visible from front and slight damp mark rear left of the scroll arm. Not particularly noticeable until closely inspected.

A Lloyd Loom style three piece conservatory suite of two seat sofa, 140 cm wide and pair of armchairs, 67 cm wide, together with a matching single drawer side table, 47 cm wide and two modern Chinese decorative panels CONDITION REPORTS Bears label to the pieces. Condition - the pieces have general wear and tear conducive with age and use and are in need of a clean. The upholstery however, is stained and discoloured, etc. - probably beyond just washing. See images for further detail. There is some metal structure showing to the bases of the chairs where the covering has come off. The sofa has a scratch type mark on the right hand corner as you look at it and the left hand side has an area of what looks like dirt and a few other patches throughout. Side table drawer- lining has some splits, etc.
