CONDITION: The two volumes are loose in two boxes without any binding and lacking title pages and some text, as well as 3 maps and 4 plates. GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD: An original oblong folio Certificate of Nomination for Award issued by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for the film The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas for a Golden Globe Award of Merit for Outstanding Achievement, Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical, 1982. The attractive certificate is printed in black with manuscript calligraphic insertions and features an image of a Golden Globe in the background. Individually signed by both the President and Secretary of the Association at the foot in black inks over a blind embossed seal. Matted in beige cloth and framed and glazed in a black and gold coloured frame to an overall size of 14 x 11.5. VG. £200-300 The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) is an American musical comedy film starring Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton. It was the highest grossing live action musical film of the 1980s. As well as the present Golden Globe nomination, Dolly Parton was also nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe.
MACERONI FRANCIS: (1788-1846) British Soldier, Balloonist, Author & Inventor. Maceroni served as Aide-de-Camp to Joachim Murat during the Napoleonic Wars and later developed a steam coach for use on roads, however the development of railways ruined Maceroni's project and for a while he was imprisoned for debt. A.L.S., Francis Maceroni, one page, 4to, Hounslow, 18th May 1834, to Moran at the Globe newspaper office. Maceroni sends his correspondent an advertisement (no longer present) which he would like to appear in tomorrow's paper, adding 'I will call on Tuesday & pay for it as well as for some others I wish to be inserted'. With integral address leaf (two small areas of paper loss caused by the removal of the seal). Some very light, minor age wear, VG. £250-350. Maceroni's advertisement in the Globe gave an account of the successful performances of his steam coach in London and Brussels.

A Thwaites and Reed gravity clock, number 86, with a mahogany back plate, with applied plaque inscribed 'Jack Lambery 1972'. h. 66 cm. diameter of globe, 14 cm approximately. CONDITION REPORT: Some scratching to mahogany plaque, globe detached and has seen some earlier re-welding, but otherwise appears complete with pendulum and key.
