A George II mahogany cased compass by Thomas Wright, with a printed dial inscribed 'Tho Wright Londini Fecit', with blued steel hands and with a brass outer register, with a sliding lid, 11cm square. Thomas Wright, Mathematician, Instrument Maker and Toyman was working between 1718-1747 at The Orrery and Globe, Fleet Street, London.
A 19thC French white marble and gilt spelter mantel clock, with eight day movement striking on a bell, the back plate signed Edwards, Paris, the white dial with blue Roman numerals and enclosed within an arched case moulded with classical detail, flanked by a female seated on a couch holding dividers and folio, a table globe on the other side, the base of swept oblong shape with rounded ends, on toupie feet, 45cm high, 50cm wide.
George II - Lima halfcrown 1745 Coinage struck from South American pirate treasure when at a certain point piracy became almost official. Some of the treasure that Admiral Anson seized during his circumnavigation of the globe and by other privateers was made into coinage having the word 'Lima' to celebrate the successful harassment of the Spanish colonies.
