Remington Hepburn No.3 .44 target rifle Remington Hepburn Creedmore No.3 .44 target rifle, 34 inch octagonal barrel engraved 'E. Remington and Sons, Ilion N.Y.' the underside stamped 44 2 4/10 for the 44-90 straight calibre, stamped L.L Hepburn twice below the forend, fitted with a windage adjustable front globe sight with spirit level, and folding tang mounted diopter sight, the action with faint colour case harden stamped 'Hepburns Patent' figured walnut stock with chequered pistol grip and chequered gutta-percha butt plate bearing the ERS Remington logo, serial number 6686 to the barrel, trigger tang and inside edge of forend. Section 58(2) antique/obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Photo ID will be required if the rifle is to be posted out.127cm long The rifle is in good to excellent general condition. The bore is excellent with crisp rifling and sharp edges. The bluing on the exterior of the barrel is very good with very light wear to the edges. The action works correctly with a strong spring. There is faint colour case harden to action still visible but some signs of very light pitting marks can be seen, these are darker around the trigger guard and tang. There are some very occasional small corrosion spots dotted around such as to the chequered part of the hammer, the tang, and to the winding thread of the rear sight. I am not sure if the front and rear sights are the ones that the rifle started out with. They show slightly more signs of wear to the bluing and may have been added to the rifle in its working life. The stock is free from splits of repairs. There are a few dents and light scratches but nothing defacing. There are small areas where the compressed rubber buttplate does not fit quite flush with the bottom of the butt, this is probably due to slight warping of the buttplate but is a minor concern. Some of the screw heads show signs of being worked.
