Box of ''The Wide World'' Magazines. 63 Magazines ranging between 1952 and 1964. The Wide World Magazine was a spectacular publishing success which appeared in the late 19th century and survived until 1965. Purporting to convey the ''true'' adventures of contributors, the magazine offered readers a monthly smorgasbord of excitement from every corner of the globe. Individual copies can be found on the web at prices between £5 and £50. Condition is generally very good.
British Medals, William & Mary, Coronation 1689, copper medal, by Jan Smeltzing, armoured bust of William III r., WILHEL III DG MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIB REX, rev. the King in Coronation robes kneels atop the globe, looking to the eye of Providence, DEO JUDICE, 58mm. (MI.670/41; cf. vL.III, 386), as struck, but from lightly rust-marked dies, extremely fine and extremely rare *bt. B. A. Seaby, 1986 MI does not record the medal in copper, however a few examples have been noted (cf. ‘English Collector’, Glendining’s, 16 March 1989, lot 319. MI. records that the obverse is of a type first used in 1693, so suggesting that the medal was struck in or post that year. This in no way diminishes the medal’s extreme rarity.

(BHM.66, R2; Eimer 696; Woll.xiv; Nau 155), 400 specimens struck, superb mint state, very rare thus *ex Duke of Northumberland Collection, Sotheby’s, 17 June 1981, lot 464 This medal is the companion to lot 628 and has the same impressive provenance, being from the collections of the Dukes of Northumberland. Following the accession of George III, Hugh Percy, 2nd Earl and 1st Duke of Northumberland, KG, PC (1714–1786), had been appointed to the position of Lord of the Bedchamber (1760-1762). He would have received a medal at the Coronation. He was later Lord Chamberlain to Queen Charlotte (1762-1763).

These coins, often termed ‘Pseudo Imperial Gallic’ imitatives, were produced in the post-apocalyptic period after the fall of the Western Roman Empire.

RVTI NO, cross on globe, serpent in field upper right, in ex. IIII, wt. 1.17gms., about very fine, very rare Found Hampshire, recorded PAS Hamp 38D124. This type is a very good example of the ‘national civic’ series, originating in Northern Frankia. The fact that it was found in the UK shows the trade links of the period.
A 19thC walnut rosewood and marquetry inlaid cylinder music box, the heavily decorated case with inlaid lid set with cherubs, globe, books and telescope, with a wide ebonised crossbanding, hinging to reveal a glass topped section, the cylinder set with fifty three combs with articulated handle, on compressed feet, 15cm H, 54cm W, 24cm D.

Galba AV Aureus. Tarraco, April-late AD 68. IMP GALBA, laureate head right, with globe at point of bust / DIVA AVGVSTA, Livia standing left, draped, holding patera and leaning on sceptre. C -, cf. 43 (denarius); BMCRE -, cf. 167 (denarius); RIC -, cf. 14 (denarius); BN -, cf. 8 (denarius); Calicó 470 = Biaggi 252 = Hess-Divo 320, 326 (hammer CHF 14,000). 7.61g, 18mm, 6h. Very Fine; faint hairline in rev. field. Extremely Rare - apparently only the third known example. This type was known only in silver until as late as 1953, when part I of the Rashleigh collection (14-16 January, lot 19) was put up for auction. The type remained known only by that single example, which passed into the Biaggi collection, until 2009 when a further specimen came to light at NAC 52 (7 October, lot 357). The type remains an extremely rare example of Galba's early coinage produced in the capital of his province and power base, Hispania Tarraconensis. The reverse advertises Galba's association with the early Julio-Claudians, and Livia in particular - Galba had been a close personal friend of the imperial family, and Livia had made him her principal heir in her will, though Tiberius largely cancelled the generous bequests therein.
