A FRENCH 24CM TERRESTRIAL GLOBE, GLOBE METRIQUE PUBLISHED BY H & CIE, LATE 19TH C the sphere covered with twelve printed and varnished gores and two polar calottes in ungraduated brass meridian circle and horizon ring, on turnedn ebonised pedestal, 46cm h In unusually good entirely original preservation with sphere spinning freely, globe undamaged, varnish original and slightly unevenly yellowed with age. One or two very small scuffs marks that are hardly noticeable. The lacquer on the brass parts discoloured with age; an excellent example requiring only some light cosmetic cleaning, etc

A Halcyon Days enamel trinket box, to mark the transfer of Hong Kong to China dated 1st July 1997 and No'd. 655 to base, together with a Halcyon Days globe bottle / jar in celebration of the new millenium with quote from Tennyson to base "Let The Great World Spin Forever" CONDITION REPORTS Both pieces appear to be in good condition through out. It should be noted that on the globe there is some slight glue residue to the copper screw and it is slightly off center though the screw fixing appears to work well enough suggesting that this is part of the orginal manufacture

Attractively-bound in contemporary calf-backed marbled boards, spines lettered and decorated in gilt (extremities rubbed). FIRST EDITION of this important pioneering work of French geology. (2)
