Box of "The Wide World" Magazines. 63 Magazines ranging between 1952 and 1964. The Wide World Magazine was a spectacular publishing success which appeared in the late 19th century and survived until 1965. Purporting to convey the "true" adventures of contributors, the magazine offered readers a monthly smorgasbord of excitement from every corner of the globe. Individual copies can be found on the web at prices between £5 and £50. Condition is generally very good.

A brass and marble-effect oil lamp with pink swan decorated font and embossed globe, height 82cm. CONDITION REPORT No obvious chips to the glass, no visible wear to the brass collar or wear to the undermount. An area of restoration to one corner of the pink swan font. Chips to the top of the funnel, some surface scratching throughout. No visible cracks to the font.

Drake Battalion Royal Naval Division WW1 OR’s RND cap badge circa 1916-18.A good scarce die-stamped bi-metal example with JR Gaunt, London tablet to reverse. Oak sprays surmounted by a crowned ‘Drake’ tablet, resting on scroll ‘Auxilio Divino’ on which rests the top of the globe bearing man o’war in full sail. Two loops to reverse. VGC (KK 1161)Upon formation, the RND wore ROYAL NAVAL DIVISION cap ribbons firstly on navy blue sailor’s hat, then on the khaki sailor’s hat and for a short time on khaki peaked cap until RND Battalion cap badges were issued in May 1916.

Within bullion laurel sprays, a padded bullion Globe set on crossed silk Union flags surmounted by a bugle horn, in turn surmounted by a crown. Between the base of the Globe and that of the wreath, a bullion fouled anchor; beneath the wreath, a pair of crossed sabres. A little service wear and tiny trace of surface moth. VGCThe Royal Marine Light Infantry amalgamated with the Royal Marine Artillery in 1923 to form The Royal Marines.

Embroidered onto the Union flag, a large bullion Globe and Laurels with bullion fouled anchor below. Below the flag, a pair of crossed swords over a blue backed bullion chevron. Toned but VGC. Attractively framed and glazed many years ago.

Royal Navy Officer’s Two Clasp Naval General Service Medal “Curacoa”, “St.Sebastian”A very fine example awarded to “B WORTHINGTON LIEUT R.N”. Lieutenant Benjamin Worthing entered the Royal Navy as a Midshipman on the 18th January 1804 joining Utrecht 64 under the command of Captain John Wentworth. He was present as a Midshipman onboard HMS Latona 38 at the capture of the fortified island of Curacoa. 18 Clasps awarded to the ship. He was appointed a Lieutenant on the 2nd February 1813. He joined HMS Ajax 74 in March 1813 and it was in this ship he saw action at St.Sebastian. During his Naval service he circumnavigated the globe, sailed in the West Indies, Mediterranean and Home waters. He was placed on the half pay list on the 23rd November 1814. In his later life he worked with the P&O) Steam Navigation Company and died at Bombay in 1860.
