TAYLOR ELIZABETH: (1932-2011) British actress, Academy Award winner. D.S., Elizabeth Taylor, one page, 4to, n.p. (Washington DC), n.d. (February 1978), on the printed stationery of The American Film Institute. The typed document takes the form of a letter addressed to Taylor from Bruce Neiner of the AFI, dated 23rd February 1978, and concerns the Henry Fonda Life Achievement Award Presentation and states, in part, 'On March 1, 1978, the American Film Institute will honor Henry Fonda with the Life Achievement Award at a banquet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles…..Among the films included in AFI's salute to Henry Fonda is ”Ash Wednesday”. All required consents for the use of clips from this film are being obtained from the film's distributor Paramount Pictures, and the Screen Actors Guild. Your cooperation would be appreciated by your consenting to AFI's use of clips from this film in which you appear which may be used in connection with this program….' Signed by Taylor in black ink at the foot of the document, granting her consent. LELEWEL JOACHIM: (1786-1861) Polish historian, geographer, bibliographer and politician. A.L.S., Lelewel, one page, small 8vo, n.p., 25th March 1851, to Monsieur Schayes, in French. Lelewel states that he has written an article on world maps, explaining that he abbreviated the end as he believes that many other articles deal with the progress of astronomic observations, the measurements of the globe etc., further writing 'J'eviterai bien de details presumant qu'ils se trouveraient ailleurs dans d'autres articles. J'eviatis quelques explications qui m'avaient peut-etre mis dans une flagrante contradiction avec qu'il est dit ailleurs, ce que j'ignore. Je me vesumais autant que je puis cependant l'article paraitra trop long. Il est long parceque j'ai cru qu'il fallait precises quelques indications pour me faire comprendre. LOVELL JAMES: (1928- ) American astronaut, commander of the Apollo XIII lunar mission, 1970. Signed colour 8 x 10 photograph, the official NASA image depicting Lovell standing in a half-length pose, wearing his spacesuit, and with a globe of the moon at his side. A colourful starry galaxy can be seen in the immediate background. Signed by Lovell in blue ink to a light area at the centre of the image, adding this mission names Gemini 7, 12, Apollo 8, 13 in his hand beneath his signature.
