Lelewel states that he has written an article on world maps, explaining that he abbreviated the end as he believes that many other articles deal with the progress of astronomic observations, the measurements of the globe etc., further writing 'J'eviterai bien de details presumant qu'ils se trouveraient ailleurs dans d'autres articles. I will avoid many details assuming that they would be found elsewhere in other articles. I avoided a few explanations which had perhaps put me in flagrant contradiction with what is said elsewhere, which I do not know. I addressed as much as I can, however the article will seem too long. It is long because I thought that some precise indications were needed to make myself understood. If I refranchised them, I might have been accused of the illusion of a chimera').
