Original vintage German movie poster for the re-release of 1955 American comedy film The Seven Year Itch (Das Verflixte 7. Jahr) directed by Billy Wilder and starring Marylin Monroe and Tom Ewell. This poster was published in Germany for the re-release of the film in Cinemascope in 1974. It features a great artwork showing Marylin Monoroe in a little black night dress and black stockings set against a silver background, with the text printed on the right side in red and blue bold letters. The Seven Year Itch is a 1955 American romantic comedy film based on a three-act play with the same name by George Axelrod. The film was co-written and directed by Billy Wilder, and stars Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell, reprising his Broadway role from the play. It contains one of the most notable images of the 20th century – Monroe standing on a subway grate as her white dress is blown upwards by a passing train. The titular phrase, which refers to declining interest in a monogamous relationship after seven years of marriage, has been used by psychologists. Billy Wilder, born Samuel Wilder (1906 – March 27, 2002), was an Austrian-born American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, artist, and journalist whose career spanned more than five decades. He is regarded as one of the most brilliant and versatile filmmakers of the Hollywood Golden Age of cinema. With The Apartment, Wilder became the first person to win Academy Awards as producer, director, and screenwriter for the same film. Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson; (1926 – 1962) was an American actress, model, and singer. Famous for playing comedic "blonde bombshell" characters, she became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and early 1960s and was emblematic of the era's changing attitudes towards sexuality. Although she was a top-billed actress for only a decade, her films grossed $200 million (equivalent to $2 billion in 2018) by the time of her unexpected death in 1962. More than half a century later, she continues to be a major popular culture icon. Tom Ewell (born Samuel Yewell Tompkins, (1909 - 1994) was an American film, stage and television actor, and producer. His most successful and arguably most identifiable role was that of Richard Sherman in The Seven Year Itch, a role that he originated in the Broadway stage production (1952–1954) and reprised in the 1955 Hollywood film adaptation. He received a Tony Award for the play and a Golden Globe Award for the film. He appeared in several other light comedies of the 1950s, most notably The Girl Can't Help It (1956), though he preferred the stage. Very good condition, folded as issued. Country: Germany, year of printing: 1974, designer: Unknown, size (cm): 83.5x59.5

Lot 145

Original vintage advertising poster featuring the iconic photograph of American actress Farah Fawcett in her famous one-piece red bathing suit, with the signature of the actress in bottom right corner. Farrah Leni Fawcett (1947 – 2009) was an American actress of stage and screen, model, and artist. A five-time Emmy Award nominee and six-time Golden Globe Award nominee, Fawcett rose to international fame when she starred as private investigator Jill Munroe in the first season of the television series Charlie's Angels (1976–1977). The poster was published by Pro Arts Inc., who had pitched the idea of a poster of Fawcett to her agent and organised a photoshoot with photographer Bruce McBroom. Allegedly, Fawcett styled her own hair for the shoot and did her makeup without the aid of a mirror. She also selected her six favorite pictures from 40 rolls of film, and the choice was eventually narrowed to the one that made her famous. The resulting image of Fawcett is the best-selling poster in history, and help her to get the part of Jill Munroe in the upcoming made-for-TV movie, Charlie's Angels, which aired on March 21, 1976, on ABC. The program quickly earned a huge following, leading the network to approve production for a series, which propelled its three actresses to stardom, and Fawcett was soon proclaimed a phenomenon. Fawcett's appearance in the television show boosted sales of her poster, and she earned far more in royalties from poster sales than from her salary for appearing in Charlie's Angels. Her hairstyle went on to become an international trend, with women sporting iterations of her hair style well into the 1980s. Very good condition, small creases and faint folds in margins. Country: USA, year of printing: 1976, designer: Bruce McBroom, size (cm): 71x51
