Train made three widely publicised trips around the globe (the first in 1870) and believed that the protagonist Phileas Fogg in Jules Verne's novel Around the World in Eighty Days was modeled upon him. An unusual A.L.S., Geo Francis Train, one page, 8vo, n.p., 8th February 1868, to J. E. Lewis ('The autograph collector'), on attractive stationery featuring an engraving of a Turkish Bath at St. Ann's Hill Hydropathic Establishment in Blarney, Cork. Train offers some advice to his correspondent, in part, 'Don't Drink, Don't Smoke......Don't Gamble, Don't Snear, Don't Lie, Don't Cheat.....Live truth. Be just and fear not. Be self reliant.
