A sterling silver 19th century (George 1V & William 1V) tea set comprising: - a milk jug/creamer of compressed circular form upon a circular foot and an attractive 'C' scroll handle. The body has extensive embossed decoration of flowers and leaves. The cartouche is engraved. The initials on the cartouche are identical to those on the other two items in this tea set. Gilt interior. The jug is hallmarked for London, but the hallmarks are indecipherable. The style is that of c.1828. Weight is c. 293grams. Width (including the handle): c.16cms Height (maximum): c11.5cms Depth: c.10cms Condition: very good - a sugar bowl (possibly once gilded to the interior). Wide rim with serpentine edges. Hallmarked for London 1833-34. Manufacturer: Edward Barton (active between 1821 and 1838). Weight c.447grams. Initialled cartouche which matches that of the teapot. 'C' shaped scroll handles. Foliate decoration. Width (including the handles): 22cms Height (maximum): 11.5cms Depth: c.14.75cms Condition: good - both handles are secure - very minor ding to the plain cartouche - a teapot hallmarked for London. Manufacturers: Rebecca Emes and Edward Barnard 1st. Hallmarks are for 1825-26. Crisp hallmarks. The date letter hallmark on the underside of the lid matches that on the base. Profuse foliate decoration. The 'C' shaped scroll handle contains two pieces of ivory.
