A late 19th century Italian dark blue enamel and silver gilt covered sugar bowl by Calderoni of Milan, the squat, urn shaped bowl with pierced foliate mounts and wide double scroll handles, the conforming cover surmounted by a lobed knob surrounded by boldly cast leaves, the interior of the bowl in chestnut enamel, the base marked 800, Calderoni and the initials CD and a further mark, possibly CD1899, 8½in. (20cm.) high, the lid 5½in. (14cm.) diameter.
