A Shelley "Dainty" pattern tea set and fruit set, early 20th century, the shaped cups with moulded floral handles with yellow flowers, comprising 6 cups, 6 saucers and side plates, teapot, sugar bowl, cream jug, sandwich plate, summer fruits bowl and 6 small bowls, each with printed mark and inscribed pattern number 11993/9. CONDITION REPORT: There is a small chip to the underside of the teapot spout rim, otherwise the teapot appears to be in good order. At first viewing the sugar bowl looks to be in good order, however there is a fine 5 cm hairline crack issuing from a tiny nibble on the rim. There are a further three fine hairline cracks around the base of the rim but these are almost invisible to the naked eye and can only be seen when using a high powered light. The cream bowl appears to be in good order throughout with no obvious faults. Three of the teacups are in good order with no obvious faults. A further teacup appears to be in sound order and rings out nicely, but when using a high powered flash light circumferal fractures do appear around the foot rim. One cup has a rim to foot rim inverted Y shape crack with one branch of the crack having a small chip. Another cup has a 3 cm hairline crack issuing from the rim. All handles are in good order. All saucers are free of any obvious chips, cracks or restorations and all ring out nicely when tapped. All six sandwich plates appear to be free from any obvious chips, cracks or restorations, four have very minor surface marks, all ring out nicely when tapped. The sandwich plate is in good order throughout with no obvious chips, cracks or restorations and rings out nicely when tapped. There are three or four small surface spots to the centre. One cereal bowl has a three quarter length stress crack running through it and a further chip to the underside of the rim. A further bowl has a fine hairline crack issuing from a corner of the rim running 6 cm towards the foot rim. One bowl has a small chip to the underside of the rim but still rings out nicely when tapped. The large fruit bowl is in good order with no obvious chips, cracks or restorations. There are however a few very small scratch marks to the green interior body. The bowl rings out nicely when tapped.
