Art Nouveau silver plated cube teaset, comprising two teapots, milk jug, sugar bowl and hot water jug with engraved floral swag decoration, mark to the base the cube trademark, "Cube Teapots ltd, Leicester, sole manufacturers in metal T W & S", teapots 14cm high, together with two matching ceramic cups and saucers.. Provenance: By descent from Douglas Shepherd (1922-1989), a designer and architect working on public houses for the brewery firm Ind Coope. He was heavily influenced by and was a serious collector of Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau, including leading designers and artists such as Charles Ashlee and Jessie M King. He assembled a large collection from the 1950s to 1970s. His book collection was subsequently sold through Sotherby’s and in 2013 his magnificent silver collection by Archibald Knox and others was sold through these rooms.
Late 17th/early 18th century silver cup and cover or sugar bowl of fluted form, with engraved arms of the Jermyn family, slip in domed and fluted cover with ball finial and interior engraved arms, on a circular base. Underside with maker's mark only LE (possibly Ralph Leake or Leeke circa 1684 - 1700) and scratch weight 9=14. No other visible marks. All at approximately 9ozs. 11.5cm overall height.Provenance - Known as the "Jermyn Cup" from the sale of the contents of Rushbrooke Hall near Bury St Edmunds 10/11 December 1919. Rushbrooke Hall was the family seat of the Jermyn family until the early 18th century when it passed to Sir Robert Davers by marriage and the estate became the Davers family principle seat until 1806.General overall condition very good, some minor surface wear, scratching and pitting, cover is good fit, no evidence of any major damage or repair. Victorian silver five piece silver teaset, comprising 2 teapots of fluted baluster form, with hinged domed cover and flower head finial, leaf mounted handle with insulator on a circular floral base, matching coffee bowl, sugar and cream jug (London 1840/41 and 52) possibly William Hewitt. All at approximately 105ozs. Teapot 26.5cm across. APHA Ref: VCW5ET7QAll five pieces have wear and surface scratching and all have dents, some significant, particularly on one of the teapots and the coffee pot. cover hinges on both teapots and coffee pot are distorted and do not close properly. Finials on coffee pot and one tea pot are damaged but pieces are present. Bases are all uneven, handles on coffee pot and one teapot are loose. Please note the coffee pot has a major presentation inscription deeply engraved on one side virtually covering the entire surface area.
