A very fine thick gauge five piece hallmarked silver tea service comprising teapot, hot water jug, two-handled lidded sucrier and milk/cream jug, together with an associated sugar bowl: each with finely engraved and chased decoration of stylised leaves, foliate sprigs and stylised scallop shells, each item with bulbous vertical reeding above spreading circular feet, each with maker's mark of ADIE BROS LTD, assayed Birmingham 1958 (sugar bowl assayed 1957, total weight of five pieces (including handles and knop finials) 2793g). Sold with silver-framed facsimile letter dated 16 November 1947, frame assayed Birmingham 1905 (26.5 cm high x 21.25 cm wide). Provenance: consigned by a Lady of title and Royal heritage
4 piece sterling silver 19th century tea set, with Wiltshire military interest.Comprising of a teapot, coffee pot, sugar bowl, and cream jug.Notes: although the set has engraved decoration that matches across all 4 pieces, the set has been built over a period of time, with each piece having a different date letter.All pieces are named to a Pte, later Cpl S.B. Wheaton of the 1st Wiltshire Rifle Volunteers, and would appear to have been awarded as prizes between 1865 and 1873 (probably for marksmanship).It seems likely that all 4 pieces started life as plain pieces, and been later decorated in an identical style in the 1870’s.The teapot is hallmarked for London 1835, with the silversmiths mark for John Tapley.Weight 538.3g The coffee pot is hallmarked for London 1863, with the silversmiths mark for Charles Boyton.Weight 790g.The sugar bowl is hallmarked for London 1837, with the silversmiths mark for John & Henry Lias.Weight 365.3g.The cream jug is hallmarked for London 1871, with the silversmiths mark for Charles Boyton.Both the teapot and coffee pot have ivory insulating rings to the handles.Plus, a cased rifle shooting bronze medal, dated 1886, unnamed, but likely awarded to the same person.Weight 222.9gCombined weight 1916.4g / 61.61 ozt Condition: generally very good.Some normal signs of use, with light contact marks to the body, and some tiny, shallow dents to a couple of the items.Cites reference: MN58QL4U
