A 19th Century character jug as Toby Philpott with jug of ale and pipe, inscribed "Hearty Good Fellow", together with another sponge ware decorated character jug as a seated Toby Philpott with pipe and jug of ale CONDITION REPORTS Toby jugs - "Hearty Good Fellow" - pipe seems original, several areas of craquelure to the glaze and wear to the black of the hat / rim. Base with clear damage and repair both to the cracked areas and to the base - now with a grey/blue colouration. See images for further details. "Toby Philipott" overall seems in good order though there is a sign of firing crack to the top section of the scroll handle. The glass has a crack between the base of the glass and hand though this appears to be glazed over suggesting that it is a firing crack. As regards the pipe, it is a very unusual shape and again is glazed over by the chin / lip suggesting originality. It seems hard to believe that the piece would be re-fired with this added later so we believe that it is probably original. The pipe does however have a chip to the bowl (see image). Right hand has a firing crack to the sleeve. See images for more details.

A delicate Chinese porcelain bowl; hand-decorated to the interior with bats etc., the exterior with a key fret border and various Buddhistic symbols with ribbons below, on circular foot, six-character underglaze blue mark between concentric circles to the underside (with unassociated wooden stand) (13.25cm diameter)Looks generally overall, upon inspection under a glass there appear to be some scratches and small marks to the inside of the bowl. There is a small blemish mostly visible to the inside of the bowl approx. 7/8mm. The rest of the piece appears in good general overall order with bright colours (slightly faded to inside) and good condition including foot.
A Jun ware purple splash bowl (Yuan or early Ming), the lobed rim above a single vertical trail, raised on unglazed slightly spreading circular foot (14.25cm wide) Looking at the bowl under a glass there appears to be some glaze crazing to the interior which is not immediately visible to the naked eye. There also appears to be some scratching of the glaze to the interior in the middle we think commensurate with age. Looking at the rim and being super critical there has been some bubbling of the glaze and as such there appears to be some “minor” pieces of glaze away to the edge of the rim at the top. The foot appears OK and the unglazed area underneath looks OK with no major problems noted. Under the glass the exterior also shows crazing to the glaze which is a pleasing colour overall. Overall no major chips, cracks or restoration noted. Condition is good.
An attractive porcelain vase and cover, Kangxi (1662-1722), painted in underglaze blue on the tall hexagonal body with lange leizen separated by potted plants and on three feet, the cover (chipped) with a lingzhi, frits (11.5cm) (2) This has come privately and has a folded foot and a rough pontil mark to the central underside. There are some bubbles present in the foot and the circular foot is not “uniform” although we do not think this indicates any grinding down of glass to the extremities. There is one area of the underside of the foot that has a slight “kink” although this is not necessarily indicative of restoration, the main double spiral stem appears in good order as does the inverted trumpet shaped bowl. The central section of the bowl (although viewable on the outside, prevalent on the insie) has a rising wrythen imperfection that manifests itself as a raised area to the middle although again in our opinion this is natural and not as a result of any problematical issues.
