A Moser enamelled and iridescent 'Islamic-style' liqueur set circa 1895 each painted with stylised Arabic inscriptions in blue outlined in red against a matt ground, comprising: a small compressed globular jug and stopper and six liqueur glasses; each glass with conical bowl, pincered angular handle and conical foot the jug with black stencilled circular mark 'GLASFABRIK MM KARLSBAD' and inscribed MOSER AUSTRIA, painted 3322/[]1867 in red enamel, the glasses with a variety of numbers the jug 19cm., 7.5in. An engraved Jacobite plain stem cordial glass circa 1750 the funnel bowl engraved with a rose and bud below the inscription HEALTH TO ALL ORIR, FAST FRINDS, above a tall thick columnar stem and domed foot 17.2cm., 6.75in. chip to footrim A very similar cordial glass was sold in our London rooms, 11th May 1961, lot 39 and another, from the Dickson Collection, 27th July 1965, lot 87. In both cases the words 'Friends' and 'Our' were correctly spelled. A further example is illustrated by A.Hartshorne, Old English Glasses, opp. p.320, fig.52(1). à
An engraved Jacobite drawn-trumpet airtwist wine glass circa 1750 the flared bowl with rose and two buds, the reverse with an oakleaf and inscribed Fiat, on a multi-spiral airtwist stem and conical foot 15.6cm., 6.125in. According to G.Seddon, The Jacobites and their Drinking Glasses, pp.145-147, the engraving on this glass may be attributed to Engraver B in the author's nomenclature.

An engraved opaque-twist pale-green tinted wine glass circa 1765 the cup-shaped bowl engraved with fruiting vine, set on a knop with three raspberry prunts, the clear stem enclosing an opaque-twist corkscrew core above a green-tinted domed foot 15.8cm., 6.25in. A similar unengraved example was sold in these rooms, 18th December 2002, lot 108.
An Irish engraved decanter and stopper and a wine glass circa 1790 the mallet-shape with three plain neck rings, faceted lozenge stopper, the wine glass en suite with drawn conical bowl, plain stem and conical foot, each inscribed FIDELIS, ET CONSTANS, the wine glass also with CHRISTCHURCH.KNOT around the foot the decanter 29cm., 11.375in. some typical minute chips to edges of stopper (3) The inscriptions probably refer to the Order of the Friendly Brothers of Saint Patrick (see The Fundamental Laws, Statutes, and Constitutions of the Ancient and Most Benevolent Order of the Friendly Brothers of Saint Patrick published in Dublin in 1763). Christchurch is a suburb of Dublin.

A Dutch-engraved 'Peace' baluster goblet circa 1713 the pointed funnel bowl engraved with doves, one carrying an olive branch, above two ships with rising sun and whale, above the inscription A DOMINO VENIT PAX ET VICTORIA L(r)TA, set on a triple-annulated knop, a teared inverted baluster and merese above a folded conical foot 19.4cm., 7.625in. The inscription translates as From the Lord comes the joy of Peace and Victory and refers to the Treaty of Utrecht, 1713. Literature T.Rohan, Old Glass Beautiful, pl.XXII.

According to G.Seddon, The Jacobites and their Drinking Glasses, pp.140-143, the engraving on this glass may be attributed to Engraver A in the author's nomenclature. à

An engraved electioneering opaque-twist wine glass circa 1761 the ogee bowl inscribed LOWTHER AND UPTON /HUZZA, set on a double-series opaque-twist stem and conical foot 15.5cm., 6.125in. The inscription refers to the contest of Sir James Lowther and John Upton in the Westmorland Parliamentary Election of 1761; they stood jointly against a third candidate. A club-shaped decanter and an identical wine glass to the present lot, bearing the same inscription, in the Victoria and Albert Museum, are illustrated by R.J.Charleston, English Glass, pl.40b.
