A large Late Roman bluish-green glass bowl Rhineland, circa 4th-5th Century A.D.The deep footed bowl, straight-sided with wrythen moulded ribs on the lower section, the thickened rim with thin applied trail below, set on a tubular base-ring, 15.5cm diam., 13.3cm highFootnotes:Provenance:French private collection, acquired in the early 20th Century.Hôtel des Ventes de la Haute Marne, 5th March 2016 lot 301.In shape and decoration this bowl belongs to Morin-Jean's Form 100, taken from a footed bowl in greenish glass with moulded spiral ribbing found in 1870 at Vieil-Atre, now preserved in the Musée de Boulogne-sur-Mer (inv. no.2636) but for which there is no further information (Morin-Jean, La verrerie en Gaule sous l'empire romain, Paris 1913, pp.135, 136, fig.180).Another light bluish-green deep bowl and dated to the 4th Century is preserved in the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, although there are no details of is find-place (inv. no. 961x8.47; John W. Beautiful French Empire table set with silver and blue glass, 950/000, with 2 mustard pots with a silver holder with 3 claw feet, a curled handle, decorated with figures with wings. With blue glass. The silver lid has a pine cone as a button. 10x7x12cm. And 4 spice bowls with eden silver holdings with 3 claw feet and figures with wings. With blue glass inner bowls with silver spoons with a scoop-shaped bowl and a partly twisted handle. ø8x7cm. District of Paris, France, 1798-1809. Total about 946 grams. In good condition.
