Lot 1

An engraved Jacobite airtwist wine glass circa 1750 the bell bowl with an heraldic rose and two buds, the reverse inscribed Fiat and with an oak leaf, set on a double-knopped multi-spiral airtwist stem and conical foot 17.3cm., 6.75in. According to G.Seddon, The Jacobites and their Drinking Glasses, pp.148-149, the decoration on this glass may be attirbuted to Engraver C in the author's nomenclature.

A green-tinted opaque-twist wine glass circa 1765 the cup-shaped bowl set on a knop applied with three raspberry prunts, the green-tinted stem enclosing an opaque-twist gauze core within a pair of spiralling threads, above a domed foot 15cm., 6in. A similar example but with a clear glass stem was sold in these Rooms, 18th December 2002, lot 108 (#5,020).
