He lived in Southgate, London, & I bought it from him on the purchase of his house – hence the above information obtained from him, signed J E Overed”. The markings on this propeller indicate that it was for an Rolls Royce Eagle engine. This engine, the first aero engine developed by Rolls Royce, was believed to be designed in 1915, which would indicate that the information in the accompanying the letter may be incorrect or not for this actual piece. It is believed that the first German aircraft to be brought down in 1914 was an unarmed reconnaissance aircraft, which was forced down by two aircraft of No2 Squadron Royal Flying Corps on 25th August 1914, two weeks after the RFC’s arrival in France. Worthy of further research. H.85cms. W.32cms. Weight 9KG. Please note due to the size and weight, we are not able to offer in house post and packing on this lot.
