A dated commemorative racing goblet for the Derby, the generous round funnel bowl engraved with a racehorse with jockey up above the legend ORMONDE 1886, verso initials within a wreath of flowers, 15.5cm high. Note: Ormonde, a bay colt foaled in 1883 and sired by Bend Or out of Lily Agnes was owned by the 1st Duke of Westminster. He was an undefeated holder of the Triple Crown (2,000 guineas, Derby, St. Leger) achieved in 1886 which no doubt this glass commemorates. In 1888 he put to stud and sired Orme who in turn went on to sire another Triple Crown winner, Flying Fox. Ormonde died in 1904 aged twenty-one.
