A rare key-wind musical box, by Francois Nicole, No. 4379, with "Rigid Notation" grid on the cylinder, playing the overture to Gazza Ladra in two revolutions and Andante & Allegro from Adelaide di Borgogna (all Rossini), the comb in two main parts with 8-tooth section at treble end and five wider spaced extreme bass teeth and ogee profile to governor frame, in plain fruitwood case with exposed controls with turned handles, the interior lined in blue paper, with hand-written tune-sheet, with key (in very good playing condition; long-dead woodworm in case) (no serial number on base) -- 14 ¼ in. wide, the cylinder 10 x 2 ½ in. (25.2 x6.2cm.) diam., 1822-25 (203 teeth) (Literature: see Ison, R: 'Boxes by Francois Nicole and Freres Nicole', The Music Box, Vol 21 No. 3, 2003; 'The Products of François Nicole and Frères Nicole', in The Nicole Factor, Chapter 3, (MBSGB 2006); and 'Francois Nicole and his Place in History', The Music Box, Vol 27 No. 2, 2015. The conclusion was made that the mis-named "rigid notation", or squared grid on the cylinders, was unique to Francois Nicole products, noted for their outstanding quality.)

Nicole in very small font, the cylinder with "rigid notation" grid, in plain fruitwood case with exposed controls with turned handles, the lid probably an early replacement, with no tune-sheet or evidence of one -- 1822-25. --13 ¾ in wide, the cylinder 9 ¼ x 2 ½ in. (23.5 x 6.2cm.) diam., with key (plays well but softly, motor at times reluctant to start. Old worm infestation in case, long dead, but none in lid. A dress assemblage comprising: a matched pair of bronze tortoise brooches, each a shallow dome bearing low-relief interlace banded ornament with a ropework border and narrow flange rim, transverse bar, pin and catch to the reverse; double-link bronze chain for suspension between the brooches; bronze equal-arm brooch with Borre style ornament and domed lugs, catch and pin-lugs to the reverse, loop for a securing chain; a double-sided bone comb with incised transverse segmented bands, one edge with coarse teeth and the other with fine teeth; a single-edge knife comprising an iron blade with scooped tip and integral bolster, columnar bronze grip with panels of Borre style interlace. CONDITION REPORT: The mechanism appears to be in good working order and all the bells and hammers appear to be operational. The case does have some marks, the top has horizontal splits and fading, the internal glazed compartment has some scratching etc and the hinges appear to be replacements but generally the box is in good condition commensurate with age.

A Rare German Composite 'Maximilian' Full ArmourCirca 1520 And LaterOf bright steel with characteristic fluting between incised double line borders, the main edges mostly turned and roped, comprising close-helmet with one-piece skull rising to a roped comb between lines of small etched triangles, pierced with two pairs of small holes for lining laces at the back, around the flanged rear with a line of dome-headed lining rivets, and struck with an indistinct armourer's mark to the left of the tubular plume-holder, the latter incised with pairs of diagonal lines, neck-guard of two articulated plates en suite with the skull and with recessed roped borders etched with running foliate scrollwork against a granular ground, the bevor and prow-shaped visor pivoting at the same points on each side and both with fluting en suite with the skull, the former shaped to the chin (minor old holes) and throat, the latter matching the neck-guard and with bevelled borders, pierced with horizontal vision slits above a raised projection, and with small pierced ventilation holes, on either side at the front with a line of further ventilation holes between keyhole piercings, replacement lifting-peg, and two sprung button-catches on the right, gorget of four plates front and back, hinged together on the left and secured together by pin-catches on the right, breast-plate (minor internal patch at the neck-turn, rivetted repair along the left armhole gusset, small repair on the right) with hinged curved lance-rest, later fauld of four plates and tassets of four plates each, back-plate en suite (rivetted internal repairs) with culet of four plates, full arm and leg harness incorporating earlier elements, the former comprising pauldrons each of six plates, the upper plates extending over the front and back, and three plates over the upper arms linked by a turning joint to the upper cannon of the vambrace, couters each with heart-shaped haute-piece, and tubular lower cannons each hinged together and secured by a pin-catch, the latter comprising cuisses each with heart-shaped poleyns, detachable greaves each hinged on one side and with pin-catches on the other, and articulated 'bear-paw' sabatons each with central roped ridge down the front and slotted at the rear for spurs, and mitten gauntlets: on a wooden stand mounted on a wooden plinth, the latter carved in relief on the front and sides with a differing trophy of armsFootnotes:ProvenanceBy repute the W.R. The lid interior fitted with a mirror over a flush fitted velvet tray with a complete selection of carved mother of pearl and ornamental tools, comprising a mother of pearl paper knife with silver shield, the terminal carved and pierced as a lyre with jewelled mounts, a silver shield mounted stiletto gilt mount and faceted steel stem, a pair of steel bladed scissors with gilt mounts, the arms carved as dolphins, a curved handle eraser with silver shield, another with silver shield, the terminal pierced and carved with jewelled mounts, a feather form dip pen with knib with gilt metal and enamel pansy motif, a seal with silver shield and carved vase form stem, a ruler centred by a silver shield and pierced and carved with leaf scrolls, a gilt metal mounted glass inkwell and companion sander. Fitted below the tray with an operative cylinder musical box with complete comb, the compartmentalised interior lined in cream and pink satin. Central crack to lid mirror, crack to one side and the back with some losses to silvering, box 26 x 18 x 11cms.

1941 Dated Fire Officer's "Hendry" Leather Fire Helmet black finish, leather crown with high central comb.  Large rear brim.  Front peak with brass edging.  Leather backed, brass chin chain.  Brass and enamel, National Fire Brigade Association badge.  Replaced leather sweatband dated "1941" with white webbing liner.  Rear peak marked "JAS. Hendry Ltd Glasgow".  Minor wear.

19th Century Swiss rosewood 'Bells in Sight' musical box playing eight airs on 6" comb with three bells, the cover decorated with printed musical motif on block feet. (B.P. 21% + VAT) Whilst grubby and a little oily internally the comb appears to lack no tips. The case has some bubbling to veneers in places. Scuffed and marked commensurate with age.  It does not work but movement has sticky residue on it - will not run consistently.

All pieces show general scratching, wear and tear commensurate with age and use. There are no large cracks, chips or losses visible.
