dating: circa 1600 provenance: North Italy, One-piece skull, provided with high comb in the centerline with twisted border, adorned with outlines. Sharp brim, ribbed in the centerline, with recessed margin and twisted, file-roped border. Brass rivets with roundish head. Nape-guard on the back, strongly curved and sharp, in one piece with skull, decorated en suite with the brim. Mobile cheek-pieces. Comb engraved with cartouches featuring birds and dragons between floral motifs, lateral parts with bands and masks between floral and geometrical motifs, cheek-pieces with medallions featuring man and woman busts. One the left side, on the back, a plume-holder engraved with fish-bone. Old restorations at the tips and back comb. Beautiful helmet of elegant shape. height 29.5 cm.

Provided with comb of an average height, richly adorned in bass-relief on both sides, bearing a framed mask placed between two mythological monsters, all among rinceaux. A Victorian inlaid rosewood cased music box, with 38 cm comb, playing ten airs. Case width 63 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The case is in generally good condition with no significant issues. The marquetry is good. There are no cracks to the top. There are minor scuffs to the ebonised edge. The hinges are original. The base of the case is in good order as are the sides and back. The legs are all original. The mechanism winds. The box does play and sounds in tune. All mechanical components appear to be present. The stop start mechanism does not seem to be operating as it should. The comb is in good order and all of the teeth seem to have the tips. There are no missing teeth. The glass to the interior lid is in good order as is the paper label.
Two Samsons of Paris porcelain cockerels, polychrome, gold anchor mark. Tallest 22 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The smaller cockerel is in very good order with no damage, repairs or restoration. There is minor rubbing to the gilding. The larger cockerel has had some good professional restoration. The orange comb has been restored as have the tips to three of the tail feathers. The restoration is good as are the colours. There is also a small under edge chip to the foot rim.
A Victorian inlaid mahogany cased musical box, playing six airs, with 15 cm cylinder. Case length 34.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The case is in very good condition with no significant issues. The top is flat and of good colour. There are some very small sections of boxwood tramline decoration missing. The front and sides of the box are in good condition. The rear is in good order. There has been a small veneer repair to the top left hand corner of the back. The hinges are original, the cylinder winds. The comb appears to be in good condition. The box does play and sounds in tune. None of the tips of the comb are missing. The glass above the cylinder is in good condition.
