λ A George III mahogany gentleman's dressing table by Gillows of Lancaster, inlaid with boxwood edging, the hinged top revealing a compartmented interior with a pull-up easel back mirror flanked by a pair of lidded compartments one with a comb tray, the other for powder, with two wash bowl apertures and further divisions for glass bottles and two tumblers, with ivory handles, the front with three false drawer fronts above a central deep drawer with a basin aperture flanked by two drawers either side, two with divisions one for razor blades and one for combs, one stamped 'GILLOWS LANCASTER', fitted with original leaf and flower cast brass handles, on square tapering legs and brass caps and castors, 83.9cm high, 78.8cm wide, 50cm deep. Provenance: Woolley & Wallis Thursday 9th January 1997. The design for an identical piece that was made in 1798 for Sir William Milner of Nun Appleton Hall in Yorkshire is preserved in the Gillow archive in Westminster.

A 19th century French figural mantel clock, the silvered dial having Roman numerals, fitted a 30 hour movement, applied a lady, mirror, jewellery box, a jug and bowl, 28 cm high, on a music box base, under a glass dome, 41 cm (overall) See illustration Condition report Report by RB From a local deceased estate. The glass dome is dirty and has minor rim chips, the clock appears in generally good (market fresh) condition, with scratching to the silvered dial around the winding harbour, with a pocket watch type movement fitted, the clock is fixed to the rounded rectangular velvet base, which lifts to reveal the music box section having a 7 cm steel comb, the plate numbered 506, activated by a pull to the right, and with Changer and Jouer connecting rods to the front through the mother of pearl plaque (cracked and repaired), with some old holes visible from the underside, possibly indicating a change of movement or change of position of the movement, the base is veneered in birds eye maple, with a small section missing to the rim on the right hand side. Please note that Charterhouse do not guarantee the working condition of any watch or clock.
