This copy is of the second issue, with a cancel title-page containing Martin's name in the imprint; Pforzheimer had not seen a copy of the first issue. Signigicant tarnishing to comb but otherwise intact. Case in poor condition with splits, woodworm, scuffing, fall with cracks etc, would probably be best to discard and re-house musical movement. A 19th century Staffordshire hen on nest egg cruet, with red comb and white body highlighted with gilding. Length 21 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Neither the lid or base have any significant damage. There are no repairs and no restoration. There is a very tiny glaze nibble to the point of the tail and an old hairline crack emanating from this point for +/- 1 cm either side. The paintwork on the beak is a little rubbed as is the gilding. The paintwork to the base also has losses but is around 90+ % intact.

A 19th century Staffordshire hen on nest egg cruet, chick showing, principally white with red comb. Length 24 cm. CONDITION REPORT: There is no damage, no repairs and no restoration to either the lid or base. The silver gilding is rubbed. There are some minor losses to the paintwork to both the base and lid and some scuffs to the basketwork but no significant condition issues.

CONDITION REPORT: The item is in generally good order with no repairs or restoration. The lid is in good condition with no issues other than rubbing to the silver gilding and minor losses to the paintwork. The base has some glaze nibbles along the top edge of the basket which are more nibbles and rubs than chips. These are minor. There are also some small areas of loss to the paintwork.

A 19th century Staffordshire hen on nest egg cruet, yellow base, yellow comb, coloured bird. Length 21 cm. CONDITION REPORT: There is no evidence of any significant damage, no repairs and no restoration. The only minor issues are small losses to the paintwork and slight rubbing to the extremities.

A 19th century Staffordshire hen on nest egg cruet, pale yellow base, red comb, brown head. Length 22 cm. CONDITION REPORT: There is no evidence of any repairs or restoration. The upper section of the piece does however have a hairline crack which runs across the front facing wing and may well be evident on our image. This crack is also visible on the inside. There is also a firing mark at the base of the tail where it joins the back of the hen. Other than this and minor losses to the paint the piece is in good order.

A 19th century Staffordshire hen on nest egg cruet, coloured bird, green and brown wings and tail, red comb, orange base. Length 22 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cruet is in generally good order with no repairs and no restoration. There is some minor flaking to the paintwork. There is on small chip to the bottom edge of the lid just below the front wing. The base has two very small inner edge chips which are not visible with the lid in position. The defects really are minor.

Lot 180

A large Delphin Massier Vallauris polychrome cockerel, decorated in naturalistic colours, script marks to base. Height 65 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The comb has been broken above the beak and has been in four pieces and badly reattached. There are also glaze nibbles to the top of the comb. The main body of the bird is in good order with no significant issues other than very minor glaze nibbles. These are most prevalent around the extremities of the tail feathers. The tree stump has chips to the front facing edge. These should be visible on our image. There are glaze nibbles to both feet and there are some scuffs around the edges of the base.

A 19th century Swiss rosewood musical box, with 32 cm comb and playing 8 airs. Length 57 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds and plays. The stop start mechanism is erratic. There are six tooth tips missing but all teeth are present. When playing the box sounds tuneful. The case is in generally good order with no significant issues only the usual marks and scuffs commensurate with the age of the item. All inlay is present and there is no lifting.

A late 19th century oak cased mantle clock, with two-train movement, alarm and musical comb. Height 19 cm, width 15 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in generally good order. The face is in good condition also. The pointers adjust as they should. The movement is currently ticking away but we have not had the musical movement operating as we are not entirely sure how this works. The musical movement train appears fully wound. The drive train winds. We do not have a key.

Uldum Mobelfabrik; a retro teak dining suite comprising extending oval dining table with two additional leaves, a set of twelve rush-seated comb-back chairs and a sideboard with three sliding doors enclosing an arrangement of drawers (14). CONDITION REPORT Overall good condition, there is minor staining and light surface wear to the sideboard. Sideboard: width 240cm, height 80cm, depth 47cm. The table is in overall good order with light fading in patches, very minor losses, etc. The chairs are overall solid condition with minor breaks to the rush seating on a couple of the chairs, one chair with a rather prominent hole.

A 19th century Swiss tortoiseshell music box, of plain rectangular form, the lid inset with a glazed panel depicting figures beside classical ruins, movement with 2.25 inch cylinder, 3.5 x 2.25in., height 1.25in.CONDITION: Panel to lid is loose, rubbed around the edges and has broken glass, looks like the glass might be removable without damaging the panel but this cannot be guaranteed, some fine hairline scuffing to the main body of the case, movement not going, appears to be overwound, the comb looks to be in good order.

A late 19th century Nicole Freres of Geneva 24 air musical box, the faded rosewood case marquetry inlaid with a cherub riding a bear and another playing a lyre, inside of lid with play list numbered 2781/4277 and playing on a 13 inch cylinder, width 25in. depth 11in. height 8.25in.CONDITION: Case faded with minor nicks and dents but overall good, list of 24 airs a little discoloured with tears to the corners, movement going but heavily oxidised with verdigris spots and various discoloured patching to the cylinder itself, comb has fully intact teeth, no key for the original lock.
