A .577' SNIDER CALIBRE COMMERCIALLY MANUFACTURED TARGET RIFLE, by the Birmingham rifle maker Thomas Turner of Fisher Street an address he was listed at in trade directories between 1838-1890, the top of the barrel also bears the number 72 which is believed to be its serial number, it is fitted with the Mk 3 variant of the Snider lock and the bore Is extremely good but the barrel has a light coating of rust. The comb of the stock has a metal Inset to allow the fitting of a long range back sight, the butt has a silver inset marked H. Statham from C.J.H. Barrel length 38½', H. Statham & Co operated as manufacturers of vulcanised Indian-rubber hose from an address in Corporation Street, Birmingham circa 1860, the rifle is chambered in an obsolete calibre and is classed as antique free from licensing under section 58(2) of the Firearms Act 1968 whilst possessed as a curio or ornament
