The interior with paper lined lid over an ivory velvet flush fitted tray with pin cushion, four circular mirror base compartments each with a mother of pearl snowflake thread winder (one s.d.), a pair of reels, a gilt rim thimble, a stiletto the handle with gilt metal and enamel pansy motif, a pair of scissors with gilt floral mounts to leaf scroll mother of pearl arms below oval loops, one with old silver repairs, a tambour hook, a quiver form needle case with gilt metal and enamel pansy motif, a bodkin, a quiver form tweezer replacing knife (one scale broken), and a cut glass scent bottle with gilt screw cover complete with stopper, complete with squab. The lower section fitted with a musical box below a glazed panel and with complete comb and key, the movement stamped 'M and C' with engraved inscription and number '6560', the movement operative, 19 x 13.5 x 8.5cms. A QUALITE EXCELSIOR [SWISS] 'BELLS IN SIGHT' MUSICAL BOX late 19th century, the 21cm (8 1/4 inch) pinned cylinder set to a gilded steel bed, playing eight airs and flanked by a winding lever to one side, and stop / start and change / repeat levers to the other, the mechanism striking on three bells mounted in a shallow pyramid, the lid interior with a printed and typed tune sheet, the rosewood and grained faux rosewood case with marquetry inlaid musical trophies to the lid, 25cm high, 49cm wide, 31.5cm deep. Condition Report : Case with extensive woodworm; feet replaced; lid faded; comb lacking seven teeth; mechanism plays but requires attention (only central bell currently working). Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting (where possible) any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
dating: Second quarter of the 19th Century provenance: Piedmont, Iron skull with fur band (missing parts) featuring a cross-shaped, Savoy coat of arms; crest with golden brass comb featuring a lion's head in bas-relief and coat of arms with crowned monogram 'CA' at the base. Cuirassed chin-straps with brass plates. A black leather cap at the inside, not with triangles but full, probably for a non-commissioned officer. height 28.5 cm.
dating: First half of the 20th Century provenance: Papal States, Non-ferrous metal skull with medium height comb decorated with holes. Strongly sloping brim with smooth rope. Leather cap-shaped padding inside. The base of the skull featuring a row of rivets with rosettes. Plume-holder on the back with red feather. Complete with metal chin-straps. height circa 40 cm.
